Bad stuff aboard... They mentioned the hydrazine fuel load. If it reenters with that aboard, it should make some impressive fireworks, probably a better answer than dumping the fuel load in space.

An asteroid called 2007 WD5 has a 1/28 chance of impacting with Mars today. The asteroid measures approximately 50m in diameter, the same size as the asteroid that exploded over Tunguska, Siberia, a century ago this year.
Nice half-moon out there right now! And sky, clear as a bell, can still see lots of
Tomorrow morning is an alignment with Venus and Jupiter pre-dawn and the weather forecast is ... snow.

I was in Sheffield on Monday and the moon was rather beautiful. It was low in the sky, large, and a yellow/orange colour. Did anyone see it?

Oh and guess what? Too cloudy here to view the alignment between Venus and Jupiter this morning, even though I was primed and ready from the perfect vantage point of my kitchen

When I was 5 I was on holiday in the Scottish Highlands. One morning my parents told me all about the pretty lights they saw in the sky during the night. They told me they hadn't woken me up, because I would have been tired...
I still haven't forgiven them for not waking me up to see the Aurora Borealis!!!

I would love to see it, it's one of my ambitions. A few years ago we went to Canada and had the back row on the night flight back. A steward came and started peering out the window, explaining that the captain could see the northern lights from the cockpit.
The lights were still on in the cabin, so we couldn't see it.
I suppose we were probably a bit far south for it to be truly impressive. That's what I tell myself anyway.

There's nothing worse than just missing something - unless it's to hear from someone who saw it, and wasn't bothered

I SAW IT!
Beautiful against an almost black sky, just the first hints of deep blue creeping in... I love it like that!

Excellent. I am so pleased...just after I put my binos away, the clouds rolled in, excluding even the moon!

I had a look about for a couple of minutes, then nipped in to get my camera and tripod to see if I could catch it again, but by the time I got back out we'd got the clouds too...
