Indeed. I am considering working on my linux box again to get it running seti. Not sure if I will be able to get it up quickly however.

I just got a command-line SETI client working on my Linux machine. It was the first Linux "installation" that I ever did, and I had hardly any problem at all. It even does 4 client processes simultaneously, if I want to.

Would you mind describing the process to me? I can't seem to get it functioning correctly.

After not more than one week of Linux "experience" I do not really feel competent to answer that question, but I can give it a try anyhow. Please understand that I may fall back into the old M$Win lingo from time to time, but I hope you will understand what I did:
First of all I downloaded the proper Seti client from the setiathome.berkeley.edu page (it depends on your system architecture). Then I unpacked the client into a subfolder of my /home directory. I replaced the long "setiathome.%%%.blablabla.3.03 etc." folder caption with something more straightforward, like "client1".
Then I just called the "setiathome" executable from a shell. It asked me whether I was a newbie or a returning user (which I was), collected my email adress and started downloading data from SETI. With a nice little "this is the last thing you'll ever hear from me" message the client said goodbye.
If you want to run several clients at the same time (just for fun, you won't increase the computing power of your machine), you just have to duplicate the aforementioned "Client1" folder to a "Client2" folder etc. etc. etc. and shell-start the clients in these folders as well. I could get 4 clients up and running simultaneously, and I guess it would be possible with even more.
Hope this helps a bit, but please keep in mind that my success has propably been mere newbie's luck.

As far as I can judge it so far, you won't gain anything. The SETI processes just share the idle time of your machine. If it idles app. 100% (let's just neglect "work" for a moment), you can have one client running with 100% or 4 with 25% each. But I'll keep you informed.

Hmm. I am currently in 90002nd place in Seti with 59 other people sharing that ranking. I have always thought that the way that seti do their stats a bit odd.
