Two things.

I'd like to copy the data of the constellations list as you mention. to update one of the pages I've taken over. If that's OK with you. It would certainly save a large job.(As I'm sure you're aware).

What's the latest I can let you have the paragraph to include in the next Babe among the stars'?

Thanks for using my Moon picture. I hadn't realised at first that it was my one. That was a real pleasure.

I've updated the A/S main page and combined it with the welcome page. It's a little sparse but I'll add to it later when I've got some of the others in order.

If you can find room for it here's the text of the para for your babe among the Stars page. Feel free to change whatever you think fit. Any publicity is good publicity. And thanks again!

*******
The H2G2 Astronomy Society. Under New Management

The fact that you are reading this page at all pre-supposes that you have at least a passing interest in things astronomical. Galaxy Babe has kindly loaned me a few of her column inches to talk about the H2G2 Astronomy Society.

Longer term Researchers may recall that for some years Hootoo has had its own Astronomy Society, which in the past enjoyed a fairly lively existence with discussion on many matters related to 'Space' and Astronomy. Members even conducted a Perseids meteor watch, and a few tried their hand at a Messier Marathon. Even the Constellations Project first saw light there. But possibly from a lack of direction, interest in the society has, unfortunately, waned in recent years.

2009 has been designated the 'International Year of Astronomy' which celebrates the 400 years since the first primitive telescopes were turned on the heavens and heralded in the modern age of scientific discovery. IYA seeks to promote amateur astronomy in all its forms, and with this in mind we are seeking to revitalise the A/S within Hootoo.

But, to do so, the society needs you. Whatever your interest in astronomy matters, and whatever depth that interest takes, we would like to invite you to cast an eye over the societies pages. There is no requirement to join, but if you feel like doing so, leave your name on the membership page and grab a badge for your own personal space. If you don't feel like joining we would still like to see your contributions, questions or observations.

Updating some pages is still required, but we're working on it. We are going to try to keep the pages topical, so suggestions are welcome.

Here's wishing you clear skies,
Deke.

You've probably seen it already but just in case for your 'Babe among the stars' there's a new comet about that might just get brighter for late Feb/early March.

Great mindssmiley - laugh

It's already written up, in fact it may end up in PR (not my column, and article on Comet Lulin)smiley - snowball

I've also written up the competition to choose the next (last) Hubble target but I don't want to give too much away heresmiley - winkeye

Did you find the astronomy links page useful? I have an article on Nebulae in PR to add to that (hopefully soon)

Ha! I knew you'd have it in hand really.

Yes your links page is helpful and I'll make use of it. I just haven't got to that page fully yet.

At the moment I'm working on A530984 for those interested in Moonwatching. Not done yet, but when it is i might try that in PR with a bit of embellishment.

smiley - laughI do appreciate your telling me things though, so don't stop! I'm also happy to advertise the h2g2AS smiley - ok next Post deadline is 15 Feb for publication on 19 Feb.

The moon is almost full and completely restricting any potential view I might have had of the comet, however, it's a good thing because when it's closest, there'll be no moon in the waysmiley - ok

I'm optimistic is going to be as good as Comet Holmes in 2007 which changed the look of Perseus for a while, Comet Lulin is in Libra right now but it should be quite something as it enters Leosmiley - catsmiley - winkeye

Thanks for the heads up in 'Babe Among the Stars'.

I've been able to add a couple of new names. I've rejigged the Messier marathon page to allow anyone to start a sort of open ended marathon of their own. Also I'm working on a page for Moonwatching.

If I've got everything finished for the end of the month I'll try to tap the Eds for a front page mention.
