This just in: Analysis: British death toll is twice as high as calculated.

"The corona epidemic has cost more than 41,000 lives in the UK - a death toll that is more than twice as high as official estimates.
This is the conclusion of an analysis by the Financial Times that has reviewed recent data from the British Statistics Bank Office of National Statistics (ONS).
On Wednesday morning, according to official records, 17,337 coronary deaths were recorded in the UK.
The official records include only deaths in hospitals. The Financial Times' analysis includes data on all deaths in the UK."

And that is an estimate from a fairly cautious source

I'll bet there are lots of hidden cases.

Thats what the ONS figures are telling us, many more deaths overall than being declared as Corona Virus, either something else is causing this ignificant number of deaths or... the figures for corona virus are underreported.
Also is it a surprise if someone suffering a severe virus infection suffers a heart attack and how is it recorded...

I'm not sure that the available tests capture all the Coronavirus cases. Sure, they capture most of them, but there hasn't really been lot of time for designing tests. Sure, they did really well in the time they had, but I suspect that if a lot of "extra" people are dying with Coronavirus symptoms, that's probably what's killing them. Maybe there's a closely-related companion virus that didn't get detected.

In Chelsea, a low-income town just North of Boston, a random testing of citizens revealed that 30% of them had Coronavirus antibodies. That means there are six times as many residents with the virus as the official statistics indicate.

The famous/infamous Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany, has been cancelled. I bet a lot of people in Munich are pleased with that, though a lot of them are sad because they make good money during this huge beer fest.

We have Oktoberfests at some German-American social clubs in my area. These are very seldom held in October, though.

I don't think the biceps are there for show. They probably are a result of carrying heavy trays around a lot.

Well, I haven't looked in for a couple of days, but was very pleasantly surprised to see today that lots of old friends have started posting here on hootoo again, some old threads have been revived, and generally more activity on the site altogether.

Now if that's not an upside to the quarantine/lockdown/pandemic/isolation situation, I don't know what is.

May not all be down to the quarantine. Hootoo turning 21 probably also had something to do with it

I like to think that that's involved too.

Advantage: When the power goes out at home just before you'd get up for work, and you're working from home, that's a good reason to just sleep in rather than worry about rushing into work because the alarm didn't go off.

Advantage: One gets better at counting one's blessings
