Thanks for that explanation Taff! I feel relieved.
I seem to have acquired a few glasses and empty bottles and so on from last night, when we celebrated all finally arriving (we toasted the absent
friend).
I have a working dishwasher!
Nearly as useful as a butler. . .

Hi Lanzababy. I was just wondering if you'd finally got back home OK and realised I didn't have you on my friends list. So now you're on the list and I am relieved that you got home.
It still doesn't seem fair that anyone due to fly, say, last Saturday, just got on their flight as planned, but people due to fly, say, the Monday before, had to wait a week or two.
Of course, I am on the other hand really pleased that the ash didn't blow the German meet and everyone got there and, by now, will also have got home again.
It's quite hot here in Germany actually. You know, you could have come to the German meet, and still got your flight back on time. Either have taken a cheap flight from here or a cheap return flight to Germany for the weekend. Of course, there probably are no cheap flights at the moment.

Hi Trillian's Child ( to add you to my list too!) Nice to see you.
Since joining h2g2 I have really decided to be more outgoing and adventurous. I think next year I will try to attend as many meets as possible. I'm sorry that I didn't get to the German one this year, nor will I be able to make the London one as I am staying here to watch the Lanzarote Ironman competition. It is a world class event and maybe something I shall write an Entry about - if not for the EG, then perhaps
I was just sitting here listening to the sound of running water and thinking and then realised it was my own water - as I had left the hosepipe turned on, to give my trees in the stairwell a good soak - and completely forgot them!

I know - but I think the soil will soak it up and I shan't water them again until it looks dry again.
All our tap water is desalinated seawater. They do have some wind turbines to produce some of the power required, but not entirely. I am hoping that as the technology improves they can use more wind and less oil to make our water. Strangely the metred bills are not as expensive as the water bills in England Mind you, you don't really drink the tap water here - although I think it probably is safe to.
In the olden days, the houses all had cisterns underneath (aljebes) to collect any drops of rainwater, and water was incredibly precious. There are even large areas outside some farmhouses, made of concrete, sloping into these wells, which collected the heavy dew which settles over the island most nights.

I think the whiskey in Iceland is called Brennivin

I've thought of trying a sip or two of Brennivin, but I'm in no hurry to try it.

Morning all!
Brenniven - not sure about it having read this w*ki entry
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brenniv%C3%ADn
I feel that there must be something else out there worth drinking instead of this - but I'm in no hurry to go find.
I'm thinking about my day - and am so glad I have absolutely no deadlines to meet - no urgent things to ignore - nothing that needs sorting, fixing, tidying, washing, dusting, throwing out. In fact, it is a procrastinators dream day.
I'm going to be 'busy doing nothing'
as in the words of this song
We're busy doin' nothin'
Workin' the whole day through
Tryin' to find lots of things not to do
We're busy goin' nowhere
Isn't it just a crime
We'd like to be unhappy, but
We never do have the time

you can hum along to Bing, in your heads as long as you don't try to hard.
