now now Pierce, don't tease the boy - if his tutors see his posts, we might get him expelled.
On a different tack, I have just returned from a bowl of seafood soup, eaten in a beach cafe, well, more like a beach shack really. Sand floor and rickety tables. Dripping wet surfers propping up their boards all round. I'm quite proud of myself, as I don't really like going out to eat alone. Not only that, the seafood had quite a lot of tentacles in it today. but they were very tasty and tender baby squids.

ahem,
while not a tutor i did have to hide my screen from being watched - though not this thread, though it would nicely do
Food at school is ok, but not great - and im at no peril of running out of calories
But new system for queing adds 10 mins onto every lunch queue - and even worse we now cant all fit into the lunch hall so fight for seats.

Two Spanish electricians have now arrived to lay a new earth cable. They have been here for two hours now and are struggling to feed the new wires through the internal channels in the walls. There's a lot of 'phews' as it is quite difficult to thread the new cables. But when it's done I hope I can rely on the safety of it.
Tomorrow my new fridge arrives, so I will be back in the modern world,
I just now for a cool drink, without going out to the coffee shop. It is 25 degrees C in the shade today, with a few light clouds. I might go and have a swim when the chaps have finished here.

Oooh it rained! Well sprinkled a bit for about three minutes. All dried up now.
At one point there was a huge bang and a flash, and the chief electrician danced about a bit. They worked extremely hard and it was not an easy job, so I am very pleased with the result.
Now the chaps have gone, wires all connected, tiles replaced and wall replastered, HUGE copper spike hammered into the ground. I am happy and can now relax.

thanks Robyn, there is no way that amount of copper wire and spiking will not work. I have enough for a power station - or a lightning strike. And the chap did say it looked as if I only use about 3 amps.
Unless I use my oven, but that is not often
However, the problem must still exist for someone else - 400 volts of electricity through your earth wire is not amusing.

I can quite imagine.
Electricity is one of the few forces that we utilise that genuinely scares me...

We're going to have to rely more on electricity as we pull back on fossil fuel use...

generating it's the issue there...
Anyway, I dont have a problem using it, just a problem with what happens when it's unharnessed, by accident or design...

I am just waiting for the time when solar power is really subsidised so we can all have those tiles on our roofs to generate as much as possible. I'd quite like my own windpower generator too, if I had the land to put it on.

China intends to become the world's leading producer of solar panels. The catch here is that it will likely use the panels for its own needs, not for export. Electricity generation from wind is the U.S.'s strong point. For the last four years it has led the rest of the world in adding capacity. Texas is particularly strong in wind-produced power. T. Boone Pickens, a wealthy former oil baron, has thrown his support (and money) to wind. In some desert areas of Nevada or Arizona, where nothing will grow, there are plans to put reflecting mirrors in large circles, which channel sunlight toward a steam-powered engine, heating water and making it move rotors to make electricity. The advantage here is that it's not an expensive process.

Passive solar heating can help a lot, Lanzbaby. My uncle lived in a solar home for many years. The stones in the foundation soaked up heat from the sun during the day, and held it through the night. That was not the only solar feature, but it made a big difference.

I think my house is quite clever - it is unlike the traditional spanish/canarian designs. It has the living room and kitchen on the top level, with - and the bedrooms downstairs where they keep cool in the summer and warm in the winter because they are built into the rock, They are lit from internal windows from a central atrium, Apparently a Swedish architect designed these houses in the 1970s, and they won awards at the time. Its all very IKEA inside.
I don't have any heating , the sun warms it in the winter, and I have blinds in the summer to keep the heat out.

yep, trust the scandinavians
denmark is the worlds leading nation when it comes to wind turbines
i'm not competitive as such, neither am i nationalistic, but i think a competition to become the soundest nation possible is something to strive for
Key: Complain about this post
