I once tried linux, but couldn't get used to it

By the time I get a new computer, the software is usually not the latest edition, so whatever I get has had time to get rid of the bugs.

big business is bug/virus making - governments makes thousands

I wonder what happened with that .

I once happened to be talking to someone who worked for a regional branch of the federal government. They mentioned that they weren't allowed to use the Internet at work for security reasons. No, they weren't working for the CIA or anything like that, it's just that their computers didn't have the security systems they'd need to keep hackers and viruses out.

And it goes without saying that government computers are close to the top of every hacker's list of desirable computers to infiltrate.

I'll bet that 90% of viruses that "come out" are government try-outs

Are you talking about rogue governments like North Korea and Iran? Let's think through this a bit. If North Korea is failing to even keep its people fed, what makes you think that it has any competence in other areas such as cooking up computer viruses?

Or is this one of those conspiracy theories that can't be confirmed because the sources are always the anonymous "they.?

I know that some governments hire ex-hackers, but this has always been explained as a means of bringing other hackers to justice. In any event, hackers and viruses are often two different things. A hacker could use malware to get in and collect bank account information, etc., but there must be hacking that gets done without malware, mustn't there?

take windows 10, there are many "apps" running in it and all are sending "your" info out - close them down

firewall/antivirus - usual stuffbut! windows can "check your pc inside-out for updatesso how safe are you ???

During the night, it occurred to me that the National Security Administration has sophisticated computers that can [and apparently do] hack zillions of computers worldwide. They do it so quietly that no one knows they've done it.

I'm so glad that they care about my decisions about whether to plant blackeyed Susans or coneflowers.

We could all protest by emailing pictures of cute kittens to each other.

BOO! I'm watching you

It's just as well that I don't send text messages, use smartphones, and indulge in gaming. The more gadgets you use, the more there is for the NSA to hack into.

But probably the biggest joke of all is that the people who least want the NSA on their tails will probably do their best to stay off the grid. Not that I've ever been one of those.
