It's slightly against my better judgement. But then I'm far too naive to be allowed anywhere near a conversation about this sort of thing - especially on the internet - so I hope no-one else follows my example and comes unstuck!

Yes, it's self-referential, self-contradictory, in that you're being asked to trust the statement that you shouldn't trust him/her at all.

It's like the statement 'I am lying' - if it's true it's false and if it's false it's true.
