Yeah, my dad points out every time big storms split and go around us. It happens often enough to notice. Texas City & Galveston to the south and Houston to the north will get drenched and we might get a quarter inch or less or none.

I wasn't certain a short while ago that I was going to be able to post this, and I'm not sure I'll be able to finish it yet. About 15 minutes before the alarm went off at 5am the wind started to get up and blow the tree outside my apartment around. Then it *really* started blowing. The alarm duly went off at 5.00 and two minutes later the power flickered and then went off for about 10 seconds. Long enough to knock out the PC and mean I'll have to reset all the clocks.

I'll most likely forget to mention this tomorrow so I'll do it now. At 15.53 and 16.53 the heat index reading for Bergstrom was 114. Camp Mabry's was lower but not by much. San Antonio was also 114 at 16.54, and they achieved actual proper scorchio for the second time this year.

This is odd. The NWS page I get the hourly recordings from going back three days ( http://w1.weather.gov/data/obhistory/KATT.html ) is returning a 'Server not found' message, as are all the pages for Bergstrom, San Antonio, Houston etc. Perhaps they've had another reshuffle of urls. If they have, the search engines haven't caught up with it yet because a search for "Observed weather Camp Mabry" brings up the url I've have bookmarked.
Meanwhile, you're certain to get some rain soon BG, and we might if things hold together.

The outflow boundary just started blowing the tree outside my apartment around and it's been very dark and gloomy for almost an hour, but I don't think we're going to get anything more than some light rain and a welcome drop in temperature.

It looks like the hourly report pages are gone for good. That's a shame. I'd love to know what the heat index was yesterday because when I left work at 5pm I was certain we'd reached our first scorchio of the year, but no.

Over the past several days I've noticed a slow but continuing decrease in the temperature inside my apartment when I get up. This morning it was 78; yesterday (and for a few days previous to that) it was 79. For a couple of weeks before that it was 80 or above and the a/c (set to 79) came on immediately when I got up and turned it on.

I'm a little less sceptical now that the San Antonio/Austin NWS is showing temperatures in the low 80s (a few degrees above the ones below) for Wednesday and upper 80s for Thursday, and the Weather Prediction Centre giving this outlook for rainfall.
