Five pockets

Does ANYONE use the fifth pocket on their jeans? Most of mind are so small that I couldn't even get my fingertip in there, let alone a coin (which is what I always assumed they were for).

yes! - as happastance would have it; I just emptied mine, of all the coins, and threw the coincs into the copers and silver jars smiley - biggrin mind... maybe I've just got small hands/fingers smiley - blush

In the wild excessives of my youth, (as compared to the even wilder excesses of my non-youth), I used to call it the 'jonny pocket'... well... it was about the right size smiley - laughsmiley - blush

Mind, talking of pockets not being big enough; on my Levi jeans, the back pockets are way too small; no where near deep enough to take a wallet in them properly.... ; about half to a inch, pokes out the top of the pocket, which is a bit worring smiley - grrsmiley - doh and, I've noticed a trend, for the main side pockets, to get smaller and smaller (less deep anyhow), =- moreso on the more expensive jeans I have; and more noticly smaller on the female Levi jeans, compaired to the male ones smiley - ermsmiley - blush

Apparently it was meant for your pocket watch. Though it does seem too small, assuming the size has not changed.

Hmmm... I'll try when William's here tomorrow, see if his pocket watch fits in my jeans 'fifth pocket' smiley - zen - mind, from memory pocket watches arn't necessarily a standard size; there was if I recall a larger sized 'group' of them, and then a lot which were on teh smaller side.... smiley - weird

Dr Anthea - ah who needs to learn things... just google it!

I would think some jeans fit too snugly for anything to be placed in the majority of the pockets without creating unsightly bulges, well anything more substantial than a handkerchief or a couple of coins...

Sorry, I didn't even *know* that jeans had a fifth pocket smiley - huh. For that matter, I only use the two front pockets in any pants that I wear.

I have always believed the fifth pocket was for your watch. I almost always carry my pocket watch while wearing a waistcoat, which provides a more convenient pocket.

Just put on a pair of jeans, pocket watch is a little tight going in, but fits in the fifth pocket perfectly.

paulh, the 'fifth' pocket is inside the top of the right front pocket, almost all jeans (blue, khaki or otherwise) have them.

Here in Germany, they are even called "five pocket"to authenticate them as jeans, rather than trousers.

I also have several pairs of dress trousers that have a small 'watch pocket' sewn near the bottom end of the right front pocket. Sometimes my car keys slip in there and it takes a few extra minuets to extract themsmiley - cross

It's not just jeans that have it. My slacks all have it, and when I fish in my pocket for quarters at the laundromat, half the quarters disappear into the fifth pocket smiley - cross. Then I have to poke around in it smiley - wah. Very inconvenient....

smiley - biggrin Just the place for all manner of small items that might otherwise end up lost and forgotten in the lint that accumulates in the bottom of the main pocket, from garden seeds to small seashells...

I don't wear jeans, but I do often wear cargo trousers. As they're sealable and so much easier to access on car journeys than top pockets, I regularly keep keys, phone, wallet, sunglasses in them, and have also used them to carry 500ml bottles (ie Irn Bru, other 500ml drinks are available) camera, tickets, children's toys, wife's assorted things she's asked me to keep hold of and anything else I happen to have with me at the time.

Is that Icy volunteering I hear?
