How to keep ears dry?

Post 1

I like to wash my hair every day & would like to keep my ears dry.
My ears have small canals & I have difficulty getting any earplugs to fit, even children's ones. I've tried mouldable wax plugs, but struggle to get those to stay in. Smothering cotton wool in vaseline is very messy & I haven't had much success keeping that in either.
I'm wondering about some simple technique of covering my ears with clingfilm or waterproof plasters.
Any suggestions?

You could wash you hair the way my Dad did. He never got water in his ears.

He had a wig.

Blu-tak. No, seriously! That's what my doctor recommended for swimming when I couldn't get water in my ear. Obviously you don't put it down the ear canal - more a sort of 2p sized piece over the entrance of the ear canal. It worked perfectly for me.

And then, whilst you are washing your hair, you can stick posters on the side of your head.

Video on Youtube please.

I wash my hair in the shower. I've never got water in them like that.

I find if I tip my head, the water runs out of my ears. Does this not happen with you?

Could try blutak - sounds a bit like using the wax ones, but perhaps more mouldable!
Reminds me of Mu Beta's navel......

My ears get wetter in shower than doing hair over the bath. Yes, the water does come out but then my ears are wet & I am having trouble with my ears, which I think the dampness is exacerbating.

I'll report on the blutak tomorrow...

Probably!

Anyway, blutak worked wonderfully - stayed in, kept my ears dry & came out when I wanted! Left a slightly sticky feeling, but looks like I've found a good solution, thanks!

Perhaps you could get rid of the feeling by wiping over with a bit of baby oil on a cotton wool pad, or some cleansing milk if you have some handy. I love those little disposable cloths impregnated with cleanser - they would probably work quite well, too.

There's no end to it, is there? Once you put one thing in your ear you have to send a whole lot of other things in after it. smiley - rofl

Dr Anthea - ah who needs to learn things... just google it!

there is such a thing as a swimming ear guard/head band
some of the children i work with wear one due to being prone to ear infections when they go swimming so they must work to some extent...
