Guilty Pleasures
Bluebottle Started conversation Sep 9, 2014
Tying in with this month's <./>create</.> theme, does anyone have any guilty pleasures that they've not mentioned in yet? Is anyone a secret lemonade drinker? Do you take your children to miniature railways because secretly that's what you love (or is that just me)? Do you maintain a child-like fascination for dinosaurs (still just me)? Love old B-Movies, terrible television, cheesy music?
Am I the only one who eats golden syrup on toast?
Tell me more – and you never know, some of this conversation might even make it into or even Peer Review!

I enjoy scraping the gold paint off the rims of Stella Artois glasses with my thumbnail. Is that a gilt-y pleasure?

No, that's vandalism.

I occasionally do a lucky dip for the lottery, usually when it is obscene amount of money like 75 million Euros. Buying lottery ticket is enough to feel guilty for. The likelihood of winning is miniscule, for now never mind that, but if we did, it is an obscene amount of money in my view for anyone to have and yet I like the fantasy of spending it.
Yes, we would be looking to get rid of much it the most ethically way possible but have had actually had the conversation would three houses be too many?
Spiller and I don't live together, so technically justified having two would be ok, although we would live much more together, under different circumstances such as these. A third for Hiccup who is pretty grown now and could be at the semi-fledged stage, this house is ideal for college and would be good crash pad on a p/t basis. The out in the 'country family home', not so convenient and we all would probably shift around a bit.
We went through the hoop of the surf shack wouldn't be a second/third home but designated holiday build which people can't live in all year round
Then looked at each and went what??? We haven't won it and already our social consciences and ideals are going right out the window, and felt utterly ashamed of even in fantasy becoming champagne socialists and as for our eco credentials I am fairly sure taking the train to Cornwall doesn't cut it.
Still the next time there is a massive rollover, and I have a spare £2, the spare £2 being the more limiting factor I will still buy a lottery ticket, not because I think that my numbers are going to come up but because for a couple of days I can have some fantasy time of spending the unearned tax free 75 million Euros that it might be.

Spending an hour... in the shower... and using more 'products' than anyone should lorefully own... especially a male as... in fact... I just did... hmm, OK, actually that was over an hour in the shower but I did take an aweful lot of differnt bottles/tubes/tubs/jars/cloths/scrubs/bruses in with me today

I like disco music -- Village people, Barry Manilow, etc.
I like to read the newspaper the old-fashioned way, not online. I love the comics section. I enjoy the smell of some of the department store circulars that are usually tucked inside the paper.
I use the "good" china every day. Why wait for special occasions? I'm alive, and that seems pretty special.
When I get a brand new book, I like to smell it.
I like to pick and eat wild grapes from the grapevines on my street [without washing them! .]

spending all the Euro-lottery millions (presuming it wasn't all on drugs and weapons etc) would be more ethical than keeping it though. And if you had 3 houses or 4, you could afford to employ staff to run the ones you don't actually live in *right now* and therefore adding to the economy that way.
I don't have any problems being a champagne socialist - I would love the chance. Drinking champagne doesn't stop me wanting equality
Guilty pleasure? I have plenty. But I can't think of anything specific off the top of my head

winnoch2 - O I am sure I don't know what you mean?! and... yes... actually I can just spend an hour plus, just* cleaning myself in the shower.....
Hot, very hot water.... moisturising soap... then body wash... then an exfoliating body scrub, then facial c cleanser (plus rinse off face-mask if I've used one), shaving gel... shave.... wash hair, twice, condition hair... body polishing scrub more facial stuff (I'm not sure what half the damn stuff is) etc., etc., etc., Mind, I've knocked twenty minutes, or thereabouts off my overall shower time... by virtue of my hairdryer exploding, a few months back, and my being lazy and tight and not buying a new one I'm sure it dries 'softer' not using an hairdryer Oh, and of course, soemtimes, hair serum (or whatever its called) then the after-shaving moisturiisng cream stuff, then facial moisturiser, then body moisturiser, ethn.... etc., etc., etc., actually... its quie an achievment for me to shower in just* one hour

I take it you didn't use the hair dryer while standing in the actual shower's water stream. If you did, I can probably diagnose why it exploded, even without using my special psychic powers.

I love the apparent fact that despite the vast range of hedonistic activities people could conceivably engage in, from flirting at work, watching so-bad-they're-good films entitled 'Revenge of the Surfboarding Lesbian Killer Bikini Vampire Girls vs Above Average Sized Animal' or similar or consuming intoxicating substances and/or beverages, the guiltiest pleasure we h2g2 researchers enjoy is toast.

nah... the hairdryer just exploded in the bedroom.... like they always do, in my experience at least
Toast? with lashings and lashings of butter?; a guilty pleasure?! *thinks* nah... that's a necessity of life
