Anyone doing NaNoWriMo?

Is anyone planning to do NaNoWriMo this year?
If so, are you doing it properly - with character sketches, plots, research and such like? Or are you going to make it up as you go along?

No I'm not planning on doing it this year. Which means I probably will
If I do, I'll do it properly; I.E., make it up as I go along... Maybe something differnt this time... my last attempt failed, but the first attempt, the year before worked (a seriously aweful X-rated 'trhiller', with lots of X-rated stuff and very little thrillingness...)

I did it a couple of years ago and basically made it up as I went along. I was thrilled to finish it and value my certificate. I re-read it recently and quite enjoyed it, although I'd never submit it for public scrutiny.
I did think about doing it this year but it's a really big commitment that I can only do at home. If we're doing NaJoPoMo again this year I'll probably give that a shot again as I can do that at lunchtime so it doesn't eat into my evening.

I think I'll try have a think, see if between now and the start of it, I can get any kind of 'idea' about an actual 'storey' into my head, and if I do, then maybe it'll be worth trying again

I did it last year, and had a basic outline of the story I wanted to write (which gave me about 10,000 words in the end, so I had to make a load more stuff up as I went along...)
It was an amazing achievement that I won (and I edited the novel and got a copy professionally printed for myself). It was a massive challenge, though, so I don't think I'll be doing it again this year, although I may indeed consider it again in future.

I was going to do it last year, but Create! sponsored a daily journal program that was demanding enough that I couldn't do both. I just did the Create! project.

maybe I could write the secret diary of Harry the minnow this year... the nighthoover one I wrote last year got so surreal that it made my* head hurt just to read the last written paragraph each time I tried to add more

there you go
http://nanowrimo.org/
I've done it a few times but since I started with the OU I don't have time.
I usually start with some kind of idea about setting and one or two characters and possibly scenes and sometimes even a vague idea of plot.
And then it does what the flipping heck it likes
I'm pretty sure we had an entry or a group or something before...

I'm intending to do it again this year, we do actually have a h2g2 hangout/group over on their servers, I ought to dig that out.
I did it a couple of years ago, but work got in the way and I only got 18k words done, but that was on the first week, and in and around work. That time I totally made it up as I went along, and reading it back recently it seems a bit ranty/preachy as I can sometimes be when I write.
I'll be doing it again this year, seeing as I'm not actually going to be working in November, as it's an ideal opportunity to write the sequal to the book I'm just publishing.
So, this time I've got chapter plans and timeline guides, and over the next few weeks I'll be doing my character and location guides. That's one thing I found with the book I've just done when I went back through to edit it, there were several things that I had the characters doing that they just wouldn't. So this time I'm doing it "right". The intention is to get the second book written in November as part of NaNoWriMo, and then spend December rewriting the bits that need it, and the new year polishing and editing it to publish it early next year.

Nobody but a fool ever wrote, except for money.
Instead of NaNoWriMo, I'm doing AnSepCoMo - it's Andrew's September Copywriting Month, in which I'll be spending every waking moment writing marketing copy for small businesses, until all I want to do is drink until the pain stops.

That's because you're not getting one.
You can buy one, and I'll sign it in exchange for a pint if you like
