Time for gun control in the US?

>> CAN kill someone with almost anything. Including rocks on the ground. <<
I met someone who claimed that his hands and body were a lethal weapon and that he was banned by the police for getting involved in fights - he was some sort of martial arts expert.

Yes, and we have all heard the phrase "If looks could kill..."
(Sorry for ruining your fun back there kids, I just got all excited about that adorable little stubby knife and forgot to be charming in the thread.) <eyewink)

Right I think I have the solution.
Guns don't kill, we all know that. It's people that kill - right?
So we have to control the people.
Right now that's over with, what's the next question?

When I was on the road, I had some knucklehead come to the precinct because he just moved here and he wanted to know if he needed to register his hands. I told him that since we don't register guns, I thought his hands would be just fine.

That whole "my hands are registered as deadly weapons" thing sounds like a throwback to the seventies when martial arts were something relatively new and mysterious and borderline magic. I didn't realise people were still doing it nowadays. How quaint. And more than a little bit sad.
"since we don't register guns, I thought his hands would be just fine"
L'd actually OL at that.

"he was banned by the police for getting involved in fights"
Um... we're ALL banned by the police from getting involved in fights. Didn't he get the memo?

I've figured it out. This is a great way to avoid confrontations.
Just say, 'My hands are registered as deadly weapons.'
Then you don't have to argue about pacificism, and you get out of it with honour. Probably impresses the gf, too.

I don't think the police can actually ban anything. The legislature does that. Now we have discretion about whether or not to enforce it.

Yeah, fair enough. You know what I mean though - "getting involved in a fight" is illegal for anyone, not just Chuck Norris wannabes.

Chuck Norris is an evangelical, bigoted . Didja know that Chuck Norris internet jokes started off as Vin Diesel jokes?

For all researchers in the US who want to know what their state representatives think about gun control, here is a sheet from thedailybeast.com that gives you their voting record and NRA report card grad.

It is rather interesting.

This is not America but South Africa - but this story will run and run:
Local media are reporting that the Olympics "hero" Oscar Pistorius has shot his girlfriend through the head when mistaking her for a burglar. She was probably preparing him a St Valentines Day Surprise. For her troubles she was shot dead.

It is not 100% clear what happened but local media are reporting it as a tragic "accident".
