Liver and Onions is lovely if cooked well! Unfortunately it's usually cooked badly.

Just remembered somethign my mother once served up. She's no great cook, and is inclined to try out new recipes she finds in things like the Women's Institute cookbook. I think that was where this particuallr monstrosity came from.

It was allegedly a starter. It consisted of raw onion, lime jelly, cucumber and natural yoghurt, all mixed together and served in dinky little crystal bowls.

Truly, deeply, awful.

I love raw onion not sure though, about the lime jelly...

That would appear to be the most unpleasant ay to eat some pleasant food.

Raw chillies are nice too Though I am rather partial to the pickled ones as well or anything with chillies in... I once had to eat a half pound of raw chillies... I was travelling home, late at night, not having eaten all day, and was so* hungry... and all I had on me, which was edible was, well, a bag with half a pound of long green chillies in it... I ate most of them

I can't imagine.... really I can't...

I made a seal flipper pie a few years ago for Gung Haggis Fat Choy (Burns Supper/Chinese New Year) to go with the haggis and the rice noodle rolls. The only reason the seal flipper pie was disgusting is that I hadn't soaked the flipper long enough before putting it in the pie. That and it had been in my neighbour's freezer for about eight years after his return from Iqaluit.

The flipper itself was a lovely, lovely meaty and tender thing. I feel quite sad still today that I've not had more experience with northern country food and its preparation.

In a nutshell, my example is not, in my opinion, intrinsically disgusting. It is only disgusting due to my incompetence in its preparation.

other than that, I can't think of anything I've eaten that I'd call disgusting.

Except Sea Bugs (AKA shrimp).

And Big Sea Bugs (AKA Crabs & Lobsters).

I'm not a fan of liver and kidney.

In retrospect probably the most disgusting thing I've eaten was when my dad used to have steak and kidney pie, mash and licquor... Ew, frankly.

But the thing I've most disliked was, well, anything with blue cheese in it. All I can taste is mould. all you blue cheese fans. You are all a bit mad.

I am not a fan of any forms of sea snot (shellfish that looks like snot before it's cooked) and I have been offered a taste of chitterling .

Most parts of an animal I would eat if I needed them. I'm not starving. I'll leave things like that to those wot like em. I'll eat heart though. Yummy!

With you, Robyn - Liver & kidney. Yeuch !And yet, and yet strangely, when Ms Stress makes it, she ladles (just) the gravy over my spuds & veggies ... yummy.

Blue cheese Is gorgeous... in the right context I remember Roymondo, waxing lyrical about a brlue cheese pizza from his local pizza emporium... (which I'd had pizza from before, and were very good)... I blue but... blue cheese on a pizza... naa didn't work for me... well I ate it, of course, we were drunk...

I'm still thinking walls sausages are the worse and most disgusting thing I've eaten... actually anything like that, made from totally mashed to oblivian minced animal, though its not something intrinstic to the type of food, as home made, or more decently made burgers, or sausages etc., can be brillient... but not when the mince is mashed to oblivian (and in the case of walls sausages, I guess really very cheap crap meat in the first place)

Yep, sausages & similar if minced fine - needed to be.

Of course, there is the most disgusting thing that I've NEVER eaten.

I've never been a fan of shellfish.

When I divorced, I decided that my cooking was going to get a little more adventurous, and in Sainsburys one day my eye was caught by a bag of mussels.

They came home with me and I cooked them as suggested and tossed them in a little white wine and garlic. I tipped them onto my plate and that is where they stayed until I put them in the bin.

I really did want to try them. I really don't have any particular sexual hang-ups, but there I was faced with a bowl of mussels.

And they looked like a bowl full of vaginas.

You should have cut off the seaweed.

My first dinner made by my now-ex mother-in-law should have scared me off right then and there. She started to make lasagne but realised she was out of ricotta so she used a particularly tangy round of Danish blue instead. I felt obligated to eat it and then I felt obligated to regurgitate it later.

That said, I initially couldn't imagine eating Uni (raw sea urchin eggs as sushi) with a raw quail egg on top. Now I look forward to late Summer to late Fall when they are in season.
