...Dunno. I have a few female friends who I'm flirty with. But neither side expects it to go anywhere. If we did we probably wouldn't flirt!

That is also the problem, even if you find they are flirtatious, it might just mean they like flirting rather than that they like you.

Indeed. They issue is not whether *they* are after sex, but whether you are. Mismatches in goals need not be big deal.
I'll also happily flirt with men - or, at least, return the flirt. I doubt it will ever go anywhere - and I don't feel the same frisson. I'm tediously heterosexual.

I suppose we all flirt a bit when we meet you people...depending on what flirting is...It's hard to distinguish flirting to be friendly and flirting because you want to sleep with someone.
I texted back that I'd like to see the film but that it wasn't date and then went out of my way to be boring..entertaining him with stories around how cute my son is and some humourless feminism.
He texted me after and said 'do I get to see you again?'
Which I still think sounds a bit flirty.

If I were in your situation, the little I know from this thread, I would consider to have a good roll in the hay with that man. After that, I could see clearer whether to go out with him for only friendship, or casual recreational sex, or forget all about it.
It´s clear he "wants" something, and your demure or strategy to not awake expectations seems to be awaking his desire to go on trying to get you.
