"Who says gaming doesn't expand your music taste?"
I sure don't! I just wish you could by soundtrack CDs for Fallout 3 and New Vegas

>>Kirkegaard is overrated. Besides, I don´t think it´s that unusual to be buried there.
I guess not. It is after all a graveyard. (Kierkegaard...not entirely my cup of tea, but an interesting contrast to the Dialectical approach. Did you know he sat next to Marx in Hegels lectures? It was really Creative Tourism - find something random to do and see what happens. Who wants to see some tiny, naff statue of a mermaid?)
I saw a couple of guys digging a grave while I was there. I went back three days later and they were still doing it. I think theyd lost the plot.
Then I saw a guy crouching behind a gravestone.
Morning, I said.
No, he replied, just having a crap.

But going back to the OP...
Has it occurred to us that the music that we regard as bland pap is, in fact, edgier and more radical than anything we listened to?
It is the younger generations job to aggravate the older. Without this there would be no progress. Theyre doing a sterling job by any estimation. Very possibly they are Cultural Maoists, slaughtering the sacred cows of all we hold dear. After all, have handed over the world in a terrible state and their revenge is to rip the pish out of our beloved so-called edgy-an-radical bourgeois music.
Looked at in this light, X Factor is their Cultural Revolution, JLS are Red Guards and Jedward quite possibly exist out of spite.

Perhaps you should stick to the jokes.

Ach, give it up. The next generation will win in the end. Theyre playing the long game.

From the start..
<> Mr D
That's the wrongest thing I've ever heard. Anarchy in the UK is one of the best pop song ever, and you just can't say it's not rock. Likewise Street Spirit, Gimme Shelter, Killing in the Name or Enter Sandman. Maybe not paying attention to pop sensibilities is part of the decline, eh?

The mass-marketed pish served up by X-Factor and the like has nothing to do with passion, self-expression or pushing the boundaries, it's marketing, utterly safe and utterly bland, and about nothing more than money and fame. (Which is fair enough I reckon)
Given the amount of stuff on the internet, rock will just take its place as one option in the marketplace. Don't expect it to change the world again. It's just another niche market now, not a cultural driver. Shame really cos it's brilliant.
