That's the style I remember from the film _The Year of Living Dangerously_ staring Mel Gibson (pre-drunken, bigoted troll) and Linda Hunt.

Google is 18. On first reading, I can't find a date for the first doodle. I suppose you'd just have to scroll back to the beginning...
For what it's worth, this thread kicked off in Feb 2011.

I was somewhat mistaken. The Google Doodle is actually older, it's 20 (and still can't drink in pubs!)
The Doodle started off as 3D lettering on its side and wonky angles. This logo was nicknamed "Backrub" and lasted just until '98.

The company was founded that year, on 4 September, not 27 September. They registered the company on the 17th.
Google just arbitrarily chose the 27th as their birthday.

(And, sure, in the UK, Google could drink in pubs, but Google is a US company where the legal drinking age is 21, so it still can't drink in pubs here.) http://youtu.be/Yo9_aBj1Z84?t=2m34s

Oh, and I just learned that the first use of "google" as a verb on TV was on Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

I've learned something today! I never knew why ballpoint pens were called 'biros'.
And I never thought to ask.

I meant that I never heard "biro" before I watched the Young Ones.
I also didn't know the origin until now. I later associated it with the Bic Biro.

I would have missed that one. I'm outside its "reach". And a rather interesting reach it does have. The only two nations in the Americas that feature it today are Cuba and Columbia. But it also seems to be conspicuously absent in Eastern Europe as well.
