Effers.
Grow up.
Do you think that this is good PR for H2G2? Do you want Nick and other exc's to think that we're all rabid mad trolls?

>Oh grow up, Effers.<
Yeah well that's a big part of my disability I don't talk about. And I've got to realise there's lots of people here with *disabilities* I say that in an incredible general way...the really aren't the words...
but what I see is a *Corporation* that basically doesn't give a T*ss for a lot of sort of preipheral people...and when we get mouthy they just gag us.
This place is like the 'crown jewels' but that's because of lots of people that don't normally fit..and the present regime doesn't get that. I care about the soul of this place and if you don't understand that, too bad.
My Licence Fee will be due in May. It's the only weapon I have.

Oh, Effers is just a special flower. Obviously, studying fine arts makes one the sole and ultimate judge of, er, everything, including web design.
I trained as an architect, yet I refrain from telling my colleagues that I don't like the cut of their trousers, even though I'm working for a charity that I also donate toward, so my donations pay their wages!
I also don't mention my degree in every other post.
******
And now let's all ignore the troll and do something constructive.

>Oh, Effers is just a special flower<
Oh god you can't be more wrong.
But its true I don't really fit here...though I think 2legs gets it
What's wrong with talking about my degrees?
Or maybe I should call myself , Bachelor Effers (I can't call myself Doc Zen).

*Facepalm* That is stunningly irrelevant. Not to mention some of the clumsiest trolling I've ever come across.
What I see is a few BBC employees who are here at the WEEKEND, when they really don't have to be, trying to placate people who really are making a mountain out of a molehill. This is not a "Corporation" thing. The BBC at large doesn't even know this discussion is happening... you are not being gagged, if you were all of your posts on the subject would have been removed. This is not Airstrip One, you know. And you are not a bloody martyr. (posted in Brunel on account of the < >. I'm so retro! )
So I say again: grow up. If you can't then shut up. It's not rocket science (or even fine arts).

Yes, sorry, that was just a bit snarky. But I'm really, really tired of all the complaining. I think I'll go offline for a while, before I say what I'm *really* thinking.

Let's all take a deep breath and remind ourselves that we can discuss our differences without attacking each other, shall we?

The technicalities of the site will no doubt get sorted out but the question will remain however.
Where does h2g2 fit into BBC's activities in general and Nick's specific function in particular ?
Surely it can't be enough to let h2g2 carry on in it's own weird and wonderful way.

Nope from what I've been reading all over this site...there are lots of people who struggle here for all sorts of different ways that are really hard to explain. There was some smarmy nasty remark about AB being Lord Wolfden recently. Lord Wolfden was severely disabled and died a few months ago.
Stunningly irrelevent says it all.

I'm sorry to hear about LW. I was aware of his disabilities, which is why I was ashamed by how he was treated by some researchers.
I too have disabilities, but I don't feel the need to tell all. In here I am a person, a researcher like anyone else.
Let's just calm down and allow the dust to settle.

Yes, calm down. Why don't you all go and read ? Lots of great articles in there which should take your mind off things for a while.

Well I had that one coming!
I ended up being Dr Zen after I got married to A Girl Called Ben. I used to be Z, someone suggested we should become Mr and Mrs Zen, but I haven't been a Mr for 6 years, so that felt wrong. So now we're Dr and Mrs, like in real life.
Yes I have put my letters after my name when I've acquired new degrees, but that's to let people know that I've passed the exams. h2g2 has been part of my life for 10 years, my friends on here have supported me through endless exams, and I want to let them know that I've passed. I think I might put them back. The only other place I use my letters is when signing death certificates, and it's nice to get them out occasionally, they miss the daylight.

Baron Grim Posted Jan 23, 2011
Yea, bringing up Lord Wolfden is nearly the h2g2 equivalent of Godwin's law in that once it happens the conversation has pretty much sunk to its lowest level.

Effers, if you're not careful you'll earn yourself a ban.
You have no business with Aerian, you aren't paying them a penny, the BBC is paying them. They are simply a contractor doing as they are told by the BBC. If you dislike that then talk to the BBC in the appropriate forums, which have all been pointed out to you. If that still doesn't satisfy you then I'll say again, you know where the door is.
I don't understand this sense of obligation some people seem to have: we are *guests* here - the Beeb provides a space for a highly idiosyncratic, occasionally troublesome community and gets nothing in return. Instead of giving grief and bothering contractors, how about a bit of gratitude?
Before you use the licence fee line, look at how much of the licence fee actually goes on online content and how big a part we are of the Beebs online presence. We'd barely register as a rounding error. The community also includes a lot of forriners who don't pay the licence fee, so it clearly isn't a factor.
Iago
P.S. Effers, you aren't the only person on the site with mental health issues - just not everyone goes on about them or inflicts them upon everyone else.

If we can access their website, they can just as easily access ours. Very likely they already have, and know what's really going on. There's probably a way to gradually make things work better and satisfy more and more researchers.
The goo fans have been expressing the most dissatisfaction with the new "skin." Maybe Alabaster and Brunel are similar enough to the new skin that it will seem okay as time goes by. Would it be so terrible to offer an alternative goo option, if that's what it would take to promote harmony and happiness?
I feel that the old layout was a little crowded, and the new one feels more open. This makes a difference in terms of the time it takes a page to load. But, different people have different tastes. If you have different pathways that lead to what people want, they are happy.

OK effers thanks for your support but I've suffered the slings and arrows of the site for almost 10 years. I've posted several times lately that http://www.bbc.co.uk/Ouch is the site that, todate, has come out best from the DNA treatment and please don't take that as an invitation to leave. I say it because you accuse the BBC for failing to consider people with a disability. Other researchers would do well to look at it from the point of view of an up to date DNA site

I'll just say, as a brunel user, we seem to be losing a lot of functionality that was brought in and not implemented in alabaster or goo. For instance, we're definitely losing the conversation popup (and also the Who's Online popup). No more popups. I'm not sure if we're losing the conversation navigation widget that lets us see what posts are related to which. While the new site is much more attractive than brunel, it's lost some functionality that many of us really appreciated. We'll be able to work around it but it will be more trouble.
