I thought we were 'researchers' - or 'members'
I like the word 'diaspora' because we are from all over the Universe, but I think that might mean we should have emanated from one place to start with?

I thought we all came from Tanzania originally.

My other half of the time had one thing to say about the room in which we did these things: "It smells of community." And do you know? I know exactly what she meant, and she was right. And it wasn't a compliment.

I feel sorry for you both.

In this entry A550955, writen by D.A. he uses "networked community", also "the Guide community"
I don´t see why we need a new word to describe the people here.
all words have connotations, but in this case... I don´t see the word community specially loaded with negative ones. What have I missed?

We haven't been offered any explanation of why "Ask the h2g2 Community" was changed to "Ask H2G2". Some people are assuming it is because of negative associations with the word "Community". I think it's because Ask H2G2 is shorter and snappier.

I third it.
Arami, I was also wondering what I had missed, because I don't see negative associations with the word here either, apart from the long term tensions between the EG and the Community (but getting rid of the word would hardly solve that).

My for what its worth.
I don't have an issue with the change other than they've used capital letters. It should be in lower case.
If the pet name 'hootoo' was more widely known you could, I suppose, use Ask hootoo.

I was thinking that 'Ask hootoo' would have been a nice compromise. If the re-design encouraged the use of hootoo... Which it wont cos there's a few that cant stand it iirc.

I find "Ask H2G2" looks like the sort of stuff I'd scribble on a post-it note, and not the sort of nice thing I'd write on a label.

It is unfortunately the way these changes have been going. They are just being done with very very little conversation with the users. And when there is a conversation the answer from the BBC is 'We are right and you are wrong because we are the BBC.'
A sad state of affairs that is driving people away from BBC message boards.

I'm not really here Posted Nov 4, 2010
Funnily enough, no. It's always been that the site staff do have to do things that we don't like, the difference is that they've tried to work through it with us. Ok, so that may have extended arguments a bit, but I think that's why the site was so sticky.
I notice even motorways are telling us stuff now, so it's sad that something that worked so well other people are using it too and it's not something that h2g2 is able to keep up.
I don't mind the change of name, but H2G2 is NOT h2g2.
