I'm not big on breakfast in bed. Making it for someone else is fine, but eating and drinking tea and toast and bed makes me feel .

It's alright so long as you sit up properly, pull the duvet up properly and have a decent tray!

Nah, I just don't eat in bed - tea, ooh yes, but nothing with crumbs.

To hopefully sit and get a phone call asking me to work Mon-Fri.On the weekend I sleep until 8/9 and then I drink tea and read in bed while listening to the radio.
During the 6 week hiatus that is the school holidays I sleep in EVERY morning and then lie in bed reading, listening to the radio and drinking tea.

There are worse ways to wake up, but not that many, than hearing the words "mummy I've done a poo". Particularly when those words are spoken at around 5am and the ensuing kerfuffle wakes the other one who starts yelling. I go to the office to get away from the noise and effluvia.
If I didn't have kids I would definitely chuck in my current job which bores and stresses me, but as it is I am paid too much for my part time hours to find it easy to jump ship.

But if you didn't have kids, you might have other things to think about. When I was self-employed, I earned more, and I had a lot more satisfaction from what I did. I could up-sticks and move to where the big money was as soon as I felt like it, and frequently did.
It's a trade-off, and it depends on your personal circumstances. For me, a regular wage is good at the moment, even though it means earning a quarter of what I used to. But that doesn't mean that is what you have to settle for.

Done all the "Daddy, wake up, we're late!!" and "Can't you skip work this morning?".
Now it's more like "Gotta get up to pee and make coffee!"

Mol - on the new tablet Posted Jun 23, 2010
Gosh, kelli, I'd forgotten that. I *have* occasionally leapt out of bed then - on one occasion it was the words "...fallen in the toilet" that did it.

We are talking "The meaning of Life" here, aren't we?
Quite honestly, though, I usually get up because I need the loo. The physical functions kick in before I can start ordering my thoughts and working out what I've got to do. Those thoughts start organising themselves once the kettle has boiled.

See, for me bodily functions (my own, obviously) do not count as 'getting up'. That happens when I decide to wake up and get up, not when I'm forced to remove my body from my bed. I usually get back in after, if only to feel like I'm getting away with a lie-in
