You can call me TC Posted Mar 3, 2010
I forgot to mention that I'd been on at least 3 different PC's and on the 6music message board successfully for several days till they noticed the name.

Well I went looking for BBC news sites via the Firefox browser and kept getting a message that I was signed in as my full nick name and to sign out.Didn't and wouldn't and still seem to have the full nickname when I got back here.

It's annoying that when you want to re-set an old name in plain that if it's been zapped, it's not even stored in the history. How do they DO that?

As some have demonstrated, changing browsers won't save your long names. Neither will changing computers. The only effect doing either may have is to reset your nick. Your nick is stored on the BBC servers. As long as you stay on h2g2 you're OK, but if you change anything that requires signing back on through BBCiD, there goes your long punctuated nicknames.
I still find it odd though that Emmily and Dragonqueen received moderation emails. I'd understand if everyone that had their nicks reset got emailed, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I wonder what instigates those.

My guess is that some officious twerp decided that "Your face is a scream" and DQ's mention of the hole in her head might possibly offend someone.

Mmmh... My nickname 'toybox - cat: an animal that's always on the wrong side of the door' was reset as well... Now that wasn't offensive or copyrighted, was it?
I (Emmily) am furious...
Baron Grim Posted Mar 4, 2010
They're definitely being reset due to punctuation and length if you do anything that will require logging back in. The only question now, I believe, is what instigates a moderation email.

I think it's having a negative effect across hootoo Researchers name are shorter and mostly boring to read, I don't mean that offensively to anyone, just the result of the restrictions, and how things were.

I you think your name has been modded for being offensive, then email the Eds and ask why.
Fortunately, the Eds and co are trying to find a fix so we can have our long names again. How cool is that?
