My name has been reset due to "Emmily ~ Roses are red, peas are green, my face is a laugh, but yours is a scream"

Will someone please tell me what the is wrong with that?

Those of you have been around as long as I have (March 2002) may remember that 'Roses are red' etc was my original tag line, which I had for well over a year, I also had it when I joined the Aces. In fact, that tag line sometimes helped as an ice-breaker with newbies.

The last time my name was reset was when I had "I haven't got big tits I've just got a small body" as my tag line, I was annoyed that line was reset too, I hardly signed on hootoo for a year after that time, not sure what I'll do this time...

I have a sense of humour, I like to think I don't take life, nor myself, too seriously, I like that to reflect in my tag line...

How strange - can I ask if you stay logged in? or do you sign out, use more than one PC to get into h2g2? Do you visit other message boards on the beeb?

Wouldn't that be related to the BBCiD thingie, cos of length?

Below is an edited version of an e-mail reply (personal stuff etc removed) re long names and the new BBC ID. This clarifies current position. It seems they're still working on a hootoo specific solution to this.

nicknames have been capped at 50 characters across the BBC. We're
working on a site specific solution to allow for longer names on h2g2,
but in the meantime we'd politely ask members of the community not to
work round the restriction, as it's not something we can technically
support at present. So as a rule we are failing new nicknames that break the character restriction.""

Hope the eds don't mind me posting this, thought it might explain why some names are failing temporarily.

Oh it's a proper reset lanzababy, complete with Mods email informing me that it's offensive I've emailed the Eds, appealing for common sense, well that was I suppose more of a rant than my post here.

After I used the office computer for hootoo last week, when I signed on back home, I was just 'Emmily' so had do the Plain skin trick to get my tag back.

There must be someone or some people trawling hootoo looking for things to be even slightly offended by, I guess they need our sympathy as they must have such sad and empty lives.

No, the email was from h2g2.moderators

'190758', since it contravenes the House Rules –

Nicknames will be failed if they:

Contain website or email addresses
Appear to impersonate someone else
Contain swearwords or other words which may cause offence
Contain no character breaks, so stretch the boards
Break the general messageboard House Rules"

No mention about the length of the tag line.

I got my name reset twice last week, and I've mailed the mods to get clarification about in what way my name is breaking the rules.

No answer so far...

Dragon Queen , it's the Eds (h2g2Editorial(at)bbc.co.uk) you need to contact regarding moderation issues.

We need to do something to preserve our inoffensive tag lines...

There is a difference between the moderators and the h2g2 Editors. The moderators are from outside the BBC, and have nothing to do with the running of the site. I don't know who h2g2.moderators are, but I'd be emailing the actual Editors.

They are busy at the moment with various post bbcid things, including people who can't access their accounts.

Have you both tried putting in a shortened form of your name? eg Emmily and Dragonqueen? What happens?

Also, "Emmily ~ Roses are red, peas are green, my face is a laugh, but yours is a scream" is more than 50 characters. That may be why your name was reset. A generic email from the mods doesn't really tell you (or us) much.

Although a quick look at http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/Online?orderby=id&thissite=1 suggests that more than 50 characters isn't unusual at the moment

Not sure Kea, doing the plain skin name change allows for punctuation where's the settings in bbc-id won't allow most, if any, punctuation.
I assume if you stick to the 50 character limit there shouldn't be a problem.

Just a thought, if your tag goes to 2 lines perhaps they're the ones that are getting the chop, so to speak?

There's plenty of people still using more than 50 characters (presumably via the Plain hack). So if you've been modded it must be because something else has happened eg you've been on another board? Or maybe just unlucky.

But as said, they're trying for a formal fix for us


Hang on... BMT you've got more than 50 characters now, so how come you got that email? And was it from the h2g2 Editors?
