Well sure but it's a bit abstract isn't it? Unless people actually use 'effers' to mean... what? I don't even know if it's a verb or a noun.

People do actually use the word "effers" as indicated. My father does, for example.

Effers;England. Posted Nov 5, 2009
Well it is commonly used ie eff as an acceptable substitute for which ironically should mean its acceptable. But now it appears that the substitute itself is now unacceptable.
But yes my name kind of evolved actually from a Halloween anagram name connected to Fanny, and then Roymondo started calling me Effers based on the anagram I kept.
Yes I like the ambiguity of the name and presumably the real life people that run h2g2 considered it acceptable...but an impersonal new bbc filter doesn't.

It gets posted here though, and I think the h2g2 filter is the same as the message boards etc. Strange. Maybe we should shut up now

Well, I think the conversation has pretty much finished, hasn't it, unless other people have more questions about the new sign up process.

If you have just one h2g2 account, and a name that doesn't include anything like a rude word, just go and do it now. Follow the link given earlier.

still do not understand this, but when it affects me I will act. I do agree that the profanity filter may be a bit too tight though. Personally I very rarely swear or use so called 'rude' words, not to avoid offending people, but because it provides greater impact when I do!
