Was Charles Darwin an atheist?
warner - a new era of cooperation Posted Jan 3, 2009
Edward
Many people have the notion of God as 'a person in the sky'.
I am pointing out that the 'Almighty Creator' is unique.
"You" say >> "Where's the evidence of a God?"
I say "What is energy?" "Can you see it?"
No. Only its manifestation as light (or infra-red sensors etc.)
Every material atom has energy. There is a purpose for the universe.
There is a purpose for mankind.
( More than just eating & reproducing )

Effers,
I'm sorry you're not sleeping well. I drink a nice big mug of cocoa,
then climb under duvet.
Repeat cocoa if necessary.
( It's not foolproof! )

>> You 'know' this how? <<
The same way that I know that I'm attracted to the opposite sex for a purpose.
The same way that I know that there's oxygen in the air for a purpose.
The same way that I know that there's night and day for a purpose.

What's your opinion, King Bomba?

And what about if, say, someone was attracted to the same sex for a purpose. What does this marvellous energy have to say about that?
Oxygen has purpose.
Night and Day have purpose.
Are you serious?!
I'm swear I'm having an Arthur and The Black Knight moment.
"I'm the black night."
"You're a loony."
<--- my opinion.

This, I humbly submit, is Argument by Non Sequitur.

Yes, you did ask first, Clive.
And I'm quite happy to reply, but I feel this thread was started on
the subject of Darwin, and would prefer to discuss other topics in another suitable thread.
Was Charles Darwin an atheist?
No! Darwin for most of his life at least, was a deist and
a believer in God.
Was he eccentric? Maybe yes, maybe no, depending on your viewpoint!

and then he kinda of changed his mind and grew up. and though we can't say he was or wasn't an atheist, his belief in deism had almost certainly waned.
Read that extract from the autobiography and argue otherwise.
And it really doesn't matter one way or the other. Evolution is still true and a fact.

Darwin studied theology at Cambridge. Changed his mind later.

Specifically he was 18 when he attended Cambridge in the December of 1827 and He completed his autobiography August 3 1876 at the age of 67.
Given the example taken from his autobiography where he talks about his declining faith and that he was some 49 years older, how is my statement that he:
"changed his mind [about deism] and grew up"
in any way inaccurate?

Can't say I've read all the backlog, more light skimming.
But I'm still quite intrigued by the sudden change of question subject heading at post 8; ie switch from the 'eccentric' to 'atheist'.
Am I unreasonable in thinking that there is a subtle conflation being hinted at between 'eccentric' and 'atheist'?
Don't you just love the way some folks love to play with words?

Yeah I arrived after that.
It's a semi-serious point though: Which is more eccentric, the position of having no belief in gods, or the positive affirmation of belief in gods that do incredible things?
You're not unreasonable, I suspect it's code.
Key: Complain about this post
