I blame 2legs for my feeling like I'm starting to get a doozy of a cold on top of the ouchiness from the accident, and the fatigue from both, and not being able to take a nap because I'm the only adult home with a 3-year-old...

Oh dont, I actually felt bad for blaming my entirely unrelated inability to accept the idiots that surround me in the serene manner to which they are accustomed...

You have a messy lodger? I'm pretty messy, but my housemate is so untidy and downright unclean I could SCREAM. And I often do. Unfortunately, in every other way he's a pretty good flatmate so I let it go. But really though... What is it with almost every man I know being pathologically unable to see that they are making other people's lives a misery with their inability to, like, take a bin bag out and get a new one as soon as they've dumped a load of three day old spag bol in it, balanced on top of the fully inflated milk bottles and pizza boxes (we have recycling here but putting a box into a carrier bag next to the bin himself is also too much of an effort) and threatening to spill all over the floor... *breathe! breathe!*

I sometimes wish I could wholeheartedly agree with my best mate... Her catchphrase is 'I hate people'...

Sorry, got sidetracked. What I meant was, I know what you mean, they are a nightmare aren't they, poor you! Put their rent up: 'For the live-in cleaner you employ three days a week.'

Like wise... I get on really well with lodger, he's a good mate, and I'd certainly miss having someone else about the house if I were ever on my own again, but as you say... I think in however many years he's lived here, he's never once hoovered the floor in the front room, swept the kitchen, or oo maybe once or twice he's actually emptied the dustbin in the kitchen... smiley - grr Of course, the other consideration for me is that without his rent money I'd not be able to afford to live in my own house smiley - huh well, if I did I'd only just* be able to afford it, and would certainly have to quit drinking, smoking, eating decent food, traveling to visit friends, etc smiley - wahsmiley - handcuffs

Hah, well, I guess that's alright... if frustrating. Me an my flatmate are in a 50/50 flatshare, so neither of us has jurisdiction. Apart from living with boyfriends, this is the first time I've houseshared... If I do it again, house rules are being agreed upon early on!

Seems like a good idea.... Were I to lose the current lodger (he does apply for jobs which would mean he wouldn't live here if he took/got them and left his current job), I'd be very tempted to consider approaching the agency at the university opposite where I live, and see about getting a student or two, at least that way it would be through a letting agency, and I'd only have them here for term time smiley - erm Plus I think* I could stipulate a mature/post grad student, mind, that ain't no assurance they'd be any tidier than an undergraduate, but at least doing it through an agency might be easier to set out groundrules on tidyness and suchlike smiley - erm actually I'd kinda like to just have the place to myself, would make it easier in some ways... Mind, I'd nee dto find a job in order to be able to afford that, and I've just about given up looking after years of getting no where smiley - grrsmiley - weird

Well, anyone who moves in, you can have a written agreement that you sign up to (both of you)... In the highly unlikely situation where somebody really bugs you too much you have that to legally fall back on, and you can wave it under their noses in the intermediate stages saying look, you moved in under these conditions. Keep to them or I'm finding a new lodger! Of course you'll need to keep your end up too, but I'm sure you'd survive smiley - winkeye
