See that pile of vcr parts? That's 2legs' fault. The vcr was eating tapes, and, due to circumstancial evidence (sticky stuff on a tape that never did work quite right), I thought that cleaning the heads would help (and certainly couldn't hurt). I bought a head cleaner, and ran it through twice. Tried a tape--got eaten. Looked in the little door, and looked like there was still some gunk on the thingy, so decided to run the cleaning tape again. It got eaten. Since there's a lot less slack on a cleaning tape than on a normal tape, it wouldn't eject. After half an hour of turning the machine on and off and hitting the eject button, I decided to open the vcr up. Got the tape unlooped from the innards of the vcr, put the cover back on, and plugged it back in to see if the tape would now eject. Nope. Opened the machine again. Well, at least the slack was taken up. Jiggled the cassette around a bit, realized I'd have to do a bit more disassembly. Saved all the screws, and made note of where they had been taken from (I had hopes of putting the machine back together and cleaning the innards with the head cleaning solution and cotton swabs). Got the cleaning tape out in one piece then the cassette holder thingy came out the rest of the way. It got jammed when I tried to get it back to where I could put the screws back in At least we'd gotten it at a thrift store, so we aren't out much money, and I rescued the brand new head cleaning tape, but Faith can now not watch her tapes (she has dvds too, but doesn't quite understand when I tell her that she needs to pick a dvd instead of a tape).
2legs, I blame you for making me think that someone who knows nothing about vcrs beyond which buttons to push and how to program them (sometimes) could repair one!

Bummer. I've used the ol' take the cover off, look at it, fiddle with the moving bits and put it back together fix it method numerous times but usually it's with faults like where the machine just won't go.
I blame 2legs for the bottle of rather expensive wine I've just opened
