Er, *people* lie.
That's not an excuse to give up on them or to paint everyone with the same brush.
It's also something to remember that attitudes like this shine through in your body language and the impressions you give to people. And you will turn away the people who would not treat you this way. Instead, you attract people who subonciously feel you calling to them.
Hell, I know men let me down, sooner or later, every single one of them.
I also know that this expectation is self-fulfilling. It's a tricky cycle.

But it doesn't bother you at all? Right...
Oh, and for me, I dont *let* people lie to me (knowingly), I see no point. Because as I'm sure you yourself can confirm, liars only really lie to themselves. Knowingly allowing someone to lie to you is you lying to yourself... Double negatives dont apply in this context, sorry. You're allowing yourself to be drawn into a destructive cycle *and* trying to make that someone else's fault. So healthy. Yup.
I'm a cynical old boot, I know people lie, but if you're a little sensitive to people and pay attention, you will tend to know when people are not happy, which is when they tend to start lying, because they are hiding from the truth *themselves*. It's the happy liars I dont tend to spot, but then I refuse to go through life being deeply suspicious of everyone. I also refuse to invest *too* heavily in people. Like money, I only give, emotionally, what I am willing to give, even if they claim it's only a loan, you cant tell what will happen in the future to get in the way of you getting it back.
To feel so negative about people and relationships that you feel the need to tell everyone about how much you dont care does upset me. I pity you. If you want a thought to mull over (I'm sure you dont) then consider removing the negative people from your life, or at least distance yourself from them, untangle yourself, then consider being honest (tactful and diplomatic, yeah, but honest all the same) with yourself. I would put money on you feeling freer, happier, more positive and also a little scared once it all sinks in. Personally, I'd never go back.
Why let people damage you by trying to control them? Only person you can control is yourself, and you can only be damaged (non physically) if you give that control to someone else.

I think that perhaps because they fear lying more from the opposite sex (it has a greater effect on their lives), people notice and exaggerate it more. Hence Fluffylump's and Elly's crass generalisations.

At least Elly's had an element of wry humour and acceptance as opposed to a full scale rant about someone who obviously has issues that need confronting not condoning. IMO.
I hate seeing people hurting

I would rather suspect an unwanted party attempting to make contact prompting a conversation would be re-starting the destructive cyle.
But then I would rather suspect that person is 'getting-off' on it, since they are incapable of forming any real relationship themself, not even a friendship.
As for being lumped into anything with Elly, that can never be a bad thing, she's a smart cookie!

I'm sorry, I thought you said you were 'with' this woman. Of coure, I cant quote because it's been modded...

I wouldn't worry about it, I don't. But I would say there are different levels of 'with' and it is possible to back off emotionally and yet appear fully present, maybe I'm in-touch with my feminine side.

Maybe you're condoning someone in their self-delusion and are also a sucker for punishment.
My choice would be to not be involved, your choice is entirely yours.
However, if you can see the likely outcome or impact of certain decisions, then why go with anything that is going to give anything worse than a neutral outcome, and why settle for neutral when there are so many choices out there that have a high chance of a positive outcome?
I personally dont think that enough people take control of these things in their lives when they can. They end up feeling trapped and unhappy and bitter when a well-made decision early on when the warning signs are flashing instead of blaring with added alarms could avoid the whole silly, confidence-sapping mess...

Maybe I'm just being lazy about finding a replacement yet, but I have been busy with one thing or another.
