what are the seven wonders of the world?
Shirps Posted Mar 7, 2000
"Seven Wonders Out of This World" - hmmmm, I like that idea: Cheese... (as in the moon) Aniseed balls.. (similar to Mars?) Mars Bars, Milky Way, chocolate, sorry! Sorry, I've got to go & eat something.
Come the year 3001 - a space odyssey: so who's going to try & write it, make the film, sell the T-shirts?
I am sure of one thing: the Millenium Dome won't be on any of the lists!!

You, yes you, the person reading this. You are a wonder of the world. You were man (and woman) made. Taught to be kind tolerent and caring (I hope). Absolutly unique in the universe.
As long as you can tell everyone you meet this you'll be OK.
If it makes you think you're bigger or better than anyone else then you're wrong. The universe is very big and by comparison you're very, very, very small.
Just my two penneth, trying to get a reaction
(but yes you are a unique being whatever else you think!)

Seven wonders of the modern World, and the reasons why.
1. Europa Hotel, Belfast (most bombed hotel in the world and still open for business)
2. Leaning Tower of Pisa (long may it lean)
3. The Channel Tunnel (no wonder they allow animals straight back in now, have you ever seen a train tunnel that didn't contain vermin?)
4. World Disney World (The Happiest Place on Earth)
5. Suez and Panama Cannals (To help make the world a better place before planes and e-mail)
6. The Colossium in Rome (Still a marvel of engineering, and a bloodbath as well)
7. Titanic, Britanic and Olympic, Built in Belfast. (The unsinkable ship and her fellow ships of same design, all now at the bottom of the sea somewhere)

Another kind of out of this world list -but most of the original ancient seven are no longer extant
Yours is the beginning of an Irish list, so I'm having a go at a Lincolnshire one
The Cathedral
The Humber Bridge
Cherry Valley Duck farm
The road from Lincoln to Brigg (or any other of the original Roman roads in which the place abounds)
The Whisky Shop at the top of Steep Hill in Lincoln
The unique people who live in the county (not a thumb between 'em).

My reference source gives the 7 wonders of the ancient world as:
Pyramids of Egypt (the only one remaining)
Hanging Gardens of Babylon
Statue of Zeus at Olympia
Temple of Artemis (Diana) at Ephesus (destroyed AD262)
Mausoleum at Halicarnassus (erected by Queen Artemesia in memory of her husband King Mausolus - pieces exist in British Museum)
Colossus of Rhodes (statue of Helios/Apollo - destroyed by earthquake 224BC)
Pharos of Alexandria (marble lighthouse - destroyed by earthquake 1375)

The Oresund bridge that goes between Denmark and Sweden?
If we're going to include Mir and Hubble, what about the International Space Station?
The Winchester Mystery House. (it may be mad, but it is cool)
Maybe one day we'll be able to add the Space Elevator to the list.

While I have no doubt that your list is correct. I find other wonders of the world exceed their longevity. Although I do not know why the gardens of babylon remain. I have never seen pictures of this place for which it may be judged a "wonder." The airplane or jet. How does it get there and back without falling every time. Forget the scientific reasons for flight. Just like the bumble bee it has no business staying up. If you are reading this, then, another wonder there is. (sorry about the grammer, but then she died of old age.) I am typing this in Toledo, OH, USA. You are reading this where? How? Oh sure the sciencetist can explain but if this is not the most amazing thing I do not know what is. I can call anywhere I want in the world on a small hand held device they call a cell phone. These are the things I call wonders.

If they agree with those lists then is it wrong to repeat them?
I must admit it doesn't show much original thought
