I believe that the point of the thread was to show, by example, that it's very, *very* easy (ie, you don't have to 'hack' any email accounts) to send an email to one person that appears to have been sent from another email address entirely. In this case, you were sending an email to yourself that superficially *appeared* to have come from [email protected] - an address that most likely doesn't even exist.

Comprehension, perception.

(smiley - laugh About it being not .com but .org)

Inclined to take Rho's idea onboard, but post one had no pointers to purpose, just example of a mechanism.

Yes I also read, the exit post. An intereast might be rekindled though, or somebody, a freind of theirs could ask the threads true purpose?

I understood what happened in the experiment, I just wasn't sure of the point that Wraith was trying to make. Being able to send a copy of a news site, from someone elses email address via the BBC doesn't seem that remarkable to me.

However if there are further inferences to be drawn from the experiment, I'd be interested to know that they are. I'm guessing that it has wider implications than my fraudulently being able to send a copy of something from the BBC site.

It'd be nice to know the relevance of the experiment (and explanation) smiley - smiley. In the sense of what other more serious examples ar there?

The gap between those who work in IT (like wraith) and those of us who are merely travellers here, yawns wider...

hasn't it got something to do with the digibox thing and that guy that set up multiple accounts or is it to prove something else smiley - erm

Since the e-mail a news page does not work for digibox, doubt it. That and multi-accounts not being unique to digibox.

But about the time of this threads creation, offensive e-mail was floating about, being claimed to be from of one person (aka), when there was no gaurantee of that. Just about anybody could have spoofed the sender details.

As for the "experiment" well...

Take an apple and with a sharp knife cut it into two. Am I:-

1. Trying to show an apple may be sliced.
2. It can be sliced at least into two.
3. A knife will slice objects.
4. Only a knife will slice an apple. (Wrong I know) but suits this list.
etc. etc.

An experement need a defination of objective, aswell as method. Something we don't have (yet).

If you guess, you get it wrong. smiley - erm

I know Wraith, and I'll ask him to come and state his purpose. It would not be right for me to speak for him.
