They're called many things: pill bugs, rollie pollies, potato bugs, wood lice, doodle bugs (erroneously, but that's what we call them where I live) or armadillo bugs. But don't call them insects. They're actually crustaceans. They have gills which is why they live in moist places (and why I haven't seen one in Texas lately.)
