Would you know what to do if someone fell unconscious in front of you?

It could be that no-one wants to get involved with a stranger these days - either because of possible personal danger or the fear of litigation if things go wrong.

MMF - Keeper of Mustelids, with added P.M.A., is now in a relationship.

The other fear is contracting various diseases/viruses. I have to admit that all major injuries that I have treated have been outside of the work environment, where I am not covered by insurance, and I shall continue to pursue this policy. I think it is daft in this modern litigous state to have a means of saving someone's life, and refusing on the grounds of being sued.
When I had a gig and heard someone collapse, I leapt straight off the stage and rolled the guy over, he weighed around 20 stone, and saw his nose had impacted into his skull, and there was blood everywhere, but he was breathing.
I rolled him over, but he then stopped breathing so rolled him back. I quickly wiped off as much as poss then, lips to lips, started artificial respiration. A bystander then started heart-massage. This continued for an eternity until the Paramedics turned up with the throat tube, and then a defrib. They said there was nothing I could have done dueto the blood, but his wife was grateful someone tried something.
All I wanted was a glass of water anda stiff drink to remove the taste, and to survive a 4 hour gig.
The worst part was people coming in, and climbing over the guy, and being totally oblivious to the situation, and wanting to know when we were going to start.
Sometimes I despair of this alleged 'Human' Race.

Jab [Since 29th November 2002]

Looking around for an on site reference to St. Johns I found A2164169. Again there it makes claim that somebody from St. Johns could claim the title paramedic.

Written on the 31 Dec 2003 by MickeyMouse2 or U552075. Turns out to be written bt a 17 year old, with the same e-mail adrress as Paramedic, later AdviceParamedic U552504. The e-mail address is [email protected]

Tell me if I'm wrong, but is this person not claiming to be a paramedic by connotation?

This highlight my fundimental problem with St. Johns, they indoctrinate teenagers with good will, and possibly a desire to help others into a false perception.

The worry is if somebody is daft enough to attemt to pass themself off as a paramedic, the might be the possibility of people daft enough follow instuction from them.

Anyway for medical advice there is always:

NHS Direct
Telephone 0845 4647

Head Office: NHSExecutive, Quarry House, Quarry Hill, Leeds.

Let them help you decide if the 'bazzilion' hours wait down A&E is worth it, not 'the internet'. smiley - erm

You never know, "RoyalCollegeofSurgeons" may pop in for a smiley - tea.

smiley - headhurts Do these organisations delbertly miss use the term para as in paramedical. Para: associated in a subsidiary or auxiliary capacity. Para: to closely resembling or related to. To 'fit' their purpose avoiding what a paramedic is in modern terms?

Non of these personal spaces:-
U552504
U552075
U552619
Have the individuals definition of a paramedic. Only by learning First Aid you can become a paramedic. - Well learning First Aid is no bad thing? There is no evidence. No information about the organisations, not even a joining age, nothing.

Is there anybody that could assist this person, with how the site works? A few people that have the right knowledge to make sure things are accurate?

There are many people offering "advice" on this site, but few are people arriving in the manner of having just learned the firework code, and thus can give advice on rocket science?

Or is this the next stage of how h2g2 will become? - Nobody cares, let 'them' put each other at risk?

Would 'he' not be better off on the iCan site anway, where it deals with real community issues? smiley - erm

Mazin, spot on with your prodecure.

When working as a nurse in a semi rural GP surgery we decided to time the effect of CPR on a RescusiAnnie (a plastic dummy connected to a PC monitoring our efforts). The best possible time for an ambulance to arrive from the nearest station was 8 minutes. A paramedic on a motorbike would have only been a couple of minutes faster.

Even swopping over between a team of four of us, it was exhausting applying CPR for that length of time and we were taken aback with how ineffective our procedure was according to the read out from the PC smiley - yikes. We were all smiley - doctors and smiley - nurses with at least a minimum of 10 years experience! However the read out also stated that the patient would have survived, but if the ambulance tooka ny longer, I'm not sure we would!
