What's Turkish delight made of, and what are the origins of it? It's from Turkey, I suppose, unless there was a weird naming glitch. But all of a sudden I want to know more about it.

I have seen tins of Turkish Delight with 'Rahat Lacoum' on them, so I assume this is the Turkish (?) name for it. I'm fairly sure there's a lot of sugar in it because it tastes horribly sweet. Two other ingredients are lemon and rose water, depending on the flavour. Other than that I neither know nor care, because I can't stand the stuff.
Merry Christmas!

Sugar, gelatin, powdered sugar, and sometimes nuts. That's pretty much the extent of it, I believe. The only reason I ever paid any attention to it was because there was a bit of a scence about it in the book The Lion the Which and the Wardrobe. My fourth grade teacher read the book to us, and then treated us to some of the stuff as a treat. We all thought it was quite nifty. And I didn't encounter it again until I was 29, when I discovered some in an import shop in Harvard Square. I went on and on about it to my boyfriend. But he also thought it was pretty nifty too, so he forgave me for the little scene I caused in the store!

Good heavens, I really need to proofread these things! I meant that there was a bit of a SCENE in the book about the Lion the WITCH and the wardrobe.

I remember the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe... people always did that in charades, not realising that someone guessed it as soon as they said it was seven words.
So, does anyone know what the origin of it is? A sacrifice to Turkish gods or something?

Arg. Turkish delight, as far as I remember is an odd looking pink jelly that tastes funny.
Arg. Can anyone help me too. I need to know how to delete guide entries.

Ahha. My mum just told me that Turkish delight is a Dutch Book by Jan Wolkers, so there you go.
