far too long
i had a crew cut 2 years ago
i haven't touched it since ...
i am male although i sometimes have to reassure people
completely irrelevant but something i have to add - this conversation happens about 3 times a month
random person: are you a boy or a girl (sometimes you are a girl aren't you
me: boy (or words to that effect)
them: *look at my hair* are you gay
what is the assumption that long hair makes you look gay? - i would assure you i look no more like a girl than a boy - i dont take any care of my hair other than washing it

you don't condition
I have long hair and without conditioning it I think it would probably take me 3 hours to comb out the tangles
Besides I coconut and natural essences they make your hair smell good enough to eat

Well I was wondering, my hair has kind of gotten less than neat basically because I haven't been bothered to have it cut, but I was thinking since I'm at the stupid looking stage why not go the whole way and do it long so I can mosh properly . But the fringe is getting in my eyes. Now this is the silly bit: every time I have my hair cuts I've asked for "grade 3 back and sides and a trim on top," what would I ask for if I wanted to grow it long but don't want to look like Cousin It? (No mullet instructions please)
Its mostly curiosity, because I've always been skeptical that people with long hair really need a million different shampoo type things and always wander around with a towel on their head. I'm betting that head & shoulders and a quick rub down in the morning will do fine.

Just long enough that it has a mind of its own...flicky curly bits stucking out everywhere...and too short to put up

Re: Guys with hair look gay
My boyfriend looked more gay when he had his clipper cut...mainly because he looked like a golden monk
Of course when he started growing his hair he started growing his sideburns as well...and now he's almost beardy .
I think guys with long hair are beautiful. I think boys with no hair are beautiful.
I think people are beautiful

(I'm probably the worst person to as, my hair is a mess at the moment , but then I haven't been to the hairdresser's since I had my head shaved)
Let them know you're trying to grow it...what you want to do is keep as much of the length as possible while still keeping it neat. when I make it to the hairdresser's, I'm just going to the the back part (from the ears down) cut short again and just a *ridiculously ligh* trim for the rest so it doesn't get too split endsy...when you grow it the hair on the top of your head is always longer than the hair at the bottom anyway
And as for shampoo etc...I never did anything to my hair, even when it was down to my elbows...I did have to wash it most days (because I'm an oily person ) but apart from that I just tried to avoid brushing it...

Up until 1962, I sported an Elvis quiff, liberally supported with Brylcreem. I used to get it cut in a gentlemen's hairdressers, the owner of which played music, broadcast from a radio that continually broadcast depressing piano recitals no matter when you went in. I remember too, the shop always stank of burning hair as he would, with a lighted taper, singe the ends. I had no idea what this was supposed to achieve, but it put me off classical piano music for life. From 1963 to 1974 I never cut my hair. I have always clung to the notion that hair should be long enough for the person you're making love to, to run their fingers through it. For instance, I could'nt imagine making love to a bald headed woman, although, come to think of it, that could be quite erotic.

I had almost always had long hair until I got it all shaved off. It's far too easy to get fingers caught in long hair...especially when it's and wavy like mine...
...My Boy was worried when I went the shave that it might turn him off (my hair was one of his favourite things about me when we first met). So we were both suprised how well he took it when it all came off...we would be sitting down together and he'd just started stroking my head . He actually said I should have kept it shaved, but I feel naked without my hair

BTW when I said people assume I'm a guy, I meant on H2G2 not real life I just realised how that may have sounded.

On hootoo, on the phone...from a distance...people might think i was a boy...
...up close, more likely to think I was a lesbian (not that I particularly care..I'm taken now, and before that if a girl had hit on me I would have let her anyway )

The Rocking Monk - a beard with an idiot hanging off it Posted Aug 22, 2005
I started losing my hair at seventeen and have been regularly cropping it down to a number 1 on a weekly basis since then. Despite the lack of scalp foliage, I always make sure that it is well maintained, washed and conditioned at least once a day.
The same goes for my beard as well.
