Practise makes perfect - you use it more, you'll get quicker. Hell, you don't think that those of us who type at speeds like 80-odd words per minute started out that quick, do you? (Okay, well some might have, but to them)

I think Loup has already stated this earlier but old habits do die hard! I should know i've had alot of habits in my time
Considering that I only started posting recently again n gone from what i thought was txt spk to abbreviations I don't think i've done that bad! Well that's my opinion n its my perogative to share it with you all
Funny thing is TopHat Kittykat that i used to be a data capture worker yars ago n my typing has seriously deteriated since I started using Leisuredistrict. I think you just go along with what most people write like.
The way I type in txts is nothing like this or the way I write letters.
Yeah practice makes perfect n the more practice the more fun it can be! Well not typing anyway I was thinking of something else but that's completely off-topic

" i used to be a data capture worker yars ago n my typing has seriously deteriated since I started using Leisuredistrict"
Not a surprise, really.

Blah. Lack of emphasis changes meaning - I meant that it wasn't a surprise that -anyone's- typing would go downhill after spending time in the LeisureDistrict, that wasn't a specific commentary on your typing style, diddy.

Didn't take offense anyway
I was told recently that MSN chat is like what Leisuredistrict was like n since this thread has started I've been going into my local library to use their pc's n the standard of english is really deplorable. I had to leave cus i couldn't understand half of what was said. So yeah I can understand why people on here get so wound up about it.
I started using Lesiuredistrict in 2000 so i've got 3 years of bad habits to get rid of!
How did you find this site just out of interest?
I often wonder that about people who were already on here.

If memory serves, not too long after DNA died there was a magazine article about the site. I got bored at work one day and just followed on from there.

Has it changed much since then? (Without going into what has already been discussed!)
Is it basically the same researchers who was on then, still are now? Perhaps that's another reason some people didn't like the sudden influx of new people coming in. Just a thought anyway.

Well after DNA passed, h2g2 kind of died for a few months while the BBC took it over
And the BBC have made some major changes. It seems that a lot of people pre-BBC are still here, but I can't provide a great account of it

Well I know before you couldn't post URL's. What other major changes has there been?
I'm just interested in how a website evolves. Iv'e watched major changes in a few of my favourite websites. Some get worse some get alot better.
Would people say on the whole it's got alot better, the same or worse?
Still thinking of something to say about txtspk but can't

I didn't start this thread with textspeak in mind... on well
From many accounts I've heard, it went downhill after the BBC takeover, but a lot more researchers who joined after Douglas died I'm sure people with firsthand experience will be by soon enough...

Just reading the backlog it's LOL etc you don't like wasn't it? I still like to put it in my postings occasionally but try not to overuse it
I've just been on DNA personal space. Even written a few Guide's!
Just gonna read a bit more!

I think a lot more people joined after Douglas died because there was a lot more media coverage of the site when it happened.

It's quite clear what springs to mind if someone says theyre from Leisuredistrict but say if someone says they use H2G2. Is there such thing as a sterotypical H2G2 user like people have of Leisuredistrict users? I don't mean in a negative fashion. I think when people on here think of a Leisuredistrict user what springs to mind is they like chat n shortening words to txt speak.
Hope i've not confused anyone here! Very easy to when you read my postings even if I write in complete proper english

Agh, more backlog, that's what I get for going to bed. I won't do it again I promise...
No, I know you weren't taking the God posts seriously. You infidel pig I was referring to someone else. I tend to just reply to the last post in a conversation, a bad habbit I know.
And yes, Doom the computer game. The online first person shooter community has contributed heavily to the various internet dialects, both through people trying to chat whilst playing and through early warez sites. I am also lead to believe that the earliest usage of the word "l33t" was on Quake, but don't hold me to that.

Indeed so, it originated to describe the top players, the 'elite' and their skills. Can;t do 133t speak but the phrase it often occurs in is "fear my 133t skillz" sent as a message to someone you are about to blow to smithereens. Or whatever the geek jargon (geekon?) is!

p|-|34r |\/|1 l337 5|<1llz - or some other derivative thereof.
That said, I don't find l33t as nauseating as txtspk. Why? Surely that's hypocritical. Which is true. But that said, l33t whilst prevalent, isn't as widely used outside certain communities as txtspk is. You'll find more txtspk in advertising than you ever will l33t.
That and 'p|-|34r |\/|1 l337 |\|3(R0|\/|4|\|z3r 5|<1llz' is just fun to say.

Can you explain to me what all that was in your last postings please! I don't understand all this l33t stuff.

The geek term for blowing someone to smithereens is "frag". Please don't hurt me, I don't play it anymore, honest
