I like these lyrics: "I think that there's a soul somewhere leading me around, I wonder if she knows which way is down"
Or some Corky and The Juicepigs:
"I go out seal hunting with my best friend Tarka
But all want to do is get into his parka
I'm the only gay Eskimo
In my tribe
Well me and Nukflukchukbuk
We both like blubber
But me I've got this crazy fetish for rubber"
Liam.

It's only just begun."

Not bad, Harpo. I think my vote on that song prob goes to:
"They found the bodies when the neigbours complained
Shane was all over the walls like paint"
Yuk!! And all to a classic rock & roll riff as well.
Fave song on that album is Queen of Bohemia I think.
Anyway, time to go home - catch up on this tomorrow....

Have you guessed me yet?
I'm the slime oozing out from your TV set.

Your mind is totally controlled.
It has been stuffed into my mould.
And you will do as you are told,
Until the rights to you are sold."

Someone once asked paul Simon (no slouch witha lyric himself) this question and his reply was an unequvocal 'Be-bop-a-lula, she's my baby'.
The rest of it is all just over intellectualised w*nk*ng. Rock isn't about the lyrics, it's about the feel, as the comments about Smells Like Teen Spirit above indicate...
Though I do have a sneaking admiration for XTC's Andy Partridge and the lines from Season Cycle;
Darling don't you ever stop to wonder
About the clouds about the hail and thunder
'Bout the baby and its umbilical
Who's pushing the pedals on the season cycle?

Hmm, some of my favourite lyrics include:
"I am the entertainer, I've come to do my show
You've heard my latest record, it's been on the radio
It took me years to write it, they were the best years of my life
It was a beautiful song but it ran too long
If you're gonna have a hit you gotta make it fit
So they cut it down to 3:05"
-The Entertainer, Billy Joel
"Now you're older and I look at your face
Every wrinkle is so easy to place
And I only write them down just in case
That you die"
-Prettiest Eyes, The BEautiful South
"juliet when we made love you used to cry
you said I love you like the stars above I'll love you till I die
there's a place for us you know the movie song
when you gonna realize it was just that the time was wrong?"
-Romeo and juliet, Dire Straits
"Shut up and drive
You don't know what you're talking about
He's not the one
You ought to know that by now
You've got one of those hearts
That keeps changing your mind
Your heart has a way of making you stay
So shut up and drive"
-Shut Up And Drive, Chely Wright
"It's getting cold and I'm starting to sneeze.
I wipe my nose on my sleeve.
I got the sniffles, I'd better drink my tea.
Do d'ya wanna, wanna catch a cold with me?
I'd catch a cold with you anytime!
I ain't just feverish, I ain't just lying.
Cause when your nose is running
it's a perfect time for kissin' and huggin'
Do d'ya wanna, wanna catch a cold with me?
We'll stay inside where it's nice and warm,
tell our bosses we're caught in a sneezing storm.
We'll sniffle and snuggle and watch some more TV,
Do d'ya wanna, wanna catch a cold with me?"
-Cold Song, Jewel
