Is there a way of searching the conversation titles only? As the results it gives seem to suggest it is searching within individual posts, rather than for conversation/thread titles with the key/search words being used...

As far as I know it only searches inside the conversations and completely ignores the subject lines.
You can always ask for it as a new feature.
