More a "tell" than an "ask".

Just thought I would inform football fans that Sunderland Afc have just sacked manager Howard Wilkinson and assistanT Steve Cotterril just 20 games after the pair took charge.

Do you think Reid would go back if asked?

Would you? I thought he was treated fairly shabbily by the board and some of the fans. I have a lot of respect for Peter Reid, and think that he is an excellent manager, but I don't think he should go back to the Black Cats.

I'd like to see George Burley given the job. Although it doesn't really matter who takes over, as anyone will be better than Wilko. And, though it saddens me to say it, whoever takes over should be more concerned with getting ready for promotion from div. one next year.

That's looking inevitable now. West Ham are looking like they may slither out of it though.
I've said it before on this thread but the club should've remembered they were nothing before Reid came along. I hope he's having the last laugh.

Absolutely!
If they were to offer him the job back he should tell them where to stick it.

Sunderland are going to suffer the same fate as Derby County did when they sacked their long standing decent guy- Jim Smith. Its a pity the fans can`t sack `the board`!

Sunderland are going to suffer the same fate as smiley - erm Sunderland. I seem to remember the last round of quick-fire managership changes ended with a brief visit to the 3rd Div. Always the same it seems, either a promotion struggle or a relegation battle.
Mid-table obscurity might be nice once in a while.

I've heard Mick Mcarthy is rumoured to be connected. You can cross Keane off the 'potential signings' list. smiley - biggrin

aye, just reading about that here -http://www.ananova.com/sport/soccer/PREM/Sunderland/story/sm_759262.html?menu=
gives a couple of interesting or possibly disturbing points. I wonder if they'd have paid the £1 million if they'd known what they know now.

i'm writing this week's post column onm the assumption that mick mcCarthy's got the job, as both the Sunderland Echo and Sky Sports News seem pretty certain.
