Hathornefer (ACE) Near miss - isnt that what you'd call a hit Posted Mar 13, 2003
As lent has already started I find I cant give up anything worthy that you guys have given up cos its too late -- I'd have failed before I start. So its a case of finding something that really is self denial rather than easily avoidable and that I havent already done.
Its tough!!!!!!
How about computer games? I have installed and set up games since lent started but not played them. As an avid games tester it should be tough -- but beneficial to my college output.

I could, but that's probably only because I don't have a computer at all, hence no computer games.

Not having a pc wouldnt be an issue if you spent lots of time playing on someone elses PC .... afterall you surely have access to a PC somewhere.

When I saw the subject I pictured something completely different - like those h2g2 researchers who insist that they are perfectly normal despite having spent a year or two around here!
Me? Oh, I'm not - oh no, not me!
Hey - maybe I ought to give up self-denial?

I think Bebel Matman pre-empted you on that one.

Hath, will I put you on the list for giving up computer games?
On a different topic, Hath, are you a clarinet player?

I used to play the oboe...... and my flute is still in the cupboard but I have never played the claranet. I am also a very curious creature that wonders what prompted the question.
I am already starting to struggle withthe games thing I have to confess as a tester for a couple of companies and tester of competition maps I am already beginning to feel I should be playing . Perhaps I should have said playing for pleasure -- but its done now. No games at all.

OK, Hath. You're on the list as giving up Computer Games until Easter.
I dissected your user name as Hat-horn-efer. Horn is a common nickname for a jazz clarinet and efer is an E flat Soprano clarinet. The Hat combined with the jazz clarinet is just . No doubt, I'm completely wrong!

You are completely wrong -- but I like it
I often get called Hat or Hathorn so I kind of expect people not to understand.
Hathor as in the Egyptian goddess
nefer as in the egyptian word for beauty (think Nefertiti)
It goes back to gaming again I am afraid, more specifically an Egyptian themed game called Pharaoh I got very hooked on 2 years ago.

I should have spotted that one! My daughter loves playing Pharaoh! At one stage, I could have drawn out the hieroglyphics for Hathor and Nefer.

I like playing Pharaoh too - when I have the patience for it...
Oh - and I wanted to say that I didn't mean to make fun of you who have decided to give up something - but I just couldn't resist being ...

Wow, Gnomon, I couldn't have seen that in Hat's name! If you'd have been right- wow, what a name! It's still a good one, but the clarinettist in me is jealous.

I think Gnomon is far cleverer in naming than I was.... nothing that clever entered my brains
Off topic: Any of you or your offspring played 'Emperor: Rise of the Middle Kingdom'? The newest one in the City Building Series.
