A man takes his deathly ill dog into the vet. The vet says, "I'm sorry, I can't help him. He's dead." The distraught owner can't accept it; he wants to be absolutely certain. So, the vet calls a big retriever into the exam room. The retriever sniffs the patient thoroughly, from head to tail. Then he looks at the vet, shakes his head sadly, and leaves.
The man accepts, finally, that his dog is really dead. He asks the vet how much he owes, and the vet tells him $250. The man is incensed: why so much?
"Well, if you'd taken my word for it, the visit would have been free. But you insisted on having the lab work..."
