It's very nice here, just above zero and sunny. Some of the trees have started to blossom too early.
Sometimes I think we are another country.

The thing about Alberta is one day it will be 10 above (Celsius, for you Americans) and the birds will be singing, etc. and the nest day it'll be 25 below and snowing and then back again the next day. It's very exciting.

"I think I'll make a little post now and then reminding newcomers to the thread that they should read the backlog before making their first post. The thread is not what it might seem."
this strategy might not be that effective. i read the backlog but it didn't make any difference
thanks for the friendly welcome though. did you know about the parallels between canada/US and new zealand/australia. the smaller country in each is so much nicer to the rest of the world than the bigger.
its sunday here now. maybe reading the backlog on a sunday will help. i agree with cl - there are lots of threads on hootoo that seem to be in code....

my point about reading the backlog was for people to realize that maybe the thread really wasn't about big game hunting.
and again, welcome

They still won't get it!!!
Perhaps we should have a coded entry. You can't get to the first level until you know what a toque is. Subsequent levels would involve 2-4s and beaver tails!

Hey folks- have you heard the latest news flash? The American Military has crossed the boarder at Lewiston and are marching in single file towards Kingston. They are equipped with skis and snowshoes expecting that our winter will last for several more months. They've run into trouble because the motorists passing by seem to be throwing slush in their direction. By the time they reach the fort in Kingston, they will be totally distressed due to the fact that they are overdressed and their snowshoes are melting. Chretien has been quoted as saying "Let;s wait until March 28th to see what the UN says and then regardless of what they say, we will welcome Mr. Bush as our newly appointed overseer of Democracy in the free world.' The Temperature today in southern Ontario was +4C, but tomorrow it will be back to -24C. The snowshoes will freeze once again and those soldiers who haven't gone AWOL will be back on the march ! K

I say give them all a hearty bowl of pea soup and some icecream with maple syrup for dessert and welcome them to the true land of the free. If we are polite enough they will ask for asylum in no time.
Just keep them out of the cell that holds Zundel.

You know, the real planned response to an American invasion (which would be expected roughly in the area you suggest) is to throw everything we've got (except the ships) down through the middle of their country, hopefully following the Mississipi valley, holding our own long enough for the international community to actually stand up to them and force a truce. Personally, I think a preemptive strike into Alaska would be fun. When Bush calls up Chretien and demands that we withdraw, we could just say, "oh, okay. Don't forget to pull up your pants." And then we'd all go back home.

I neglected to mention that it has been reported that those celebrities who will be joining the peaceful demonstration along the route will include The Tragically Hip, Dan Ackroyd, Sarah Harmer and the ghost of a former member of the Loving Spoonful. (all living in Kingston and most willing to throw rotten tomatos instead of bullets.

54-40 or fight.
I'll be the first to take over a cruise ship and invade the Alaska panhandle. They don't know what to do with it anyway.

This thread is cheering me up- thanks zoomer for recommending it. Maple syruop is a good idea. Perhaps if we fed them too much, the troops would become Manic due to the sugar content, dance wildly , become euphoric and seek asylum in the true nation of the free. Remember Vietnam?- I was born in 53! The draft is about to happen all over again.

'52 for me. I remember harbouring second term dodgers from Seattle.
Incidentally- did you know that maple sugar is the most digestable sugar known? It is untraceable within hours. Perhaps we should give the Dick, Bush, Colon troops a little rider with their icecream.....

In a post about digestion, did you misspell Powell's first name on purpose?
