I feel that his rendition of *Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds* may have been the war on drug's most effective tool. No one could listen to that stoned and not decide to never try it again....
Good work!

I'm just the link finder.
On a different subject: Those basholes that are trying to keep the church from having a temporary homeless shelter in the neighborhood are stuffing mail boxes now! They've filled their little broadsheet with inuendo and unsubstantiated claims and asked everyone to show up at a meeting next week at city hall to shut down the thing. And, of course, the people who have no problem with it won't show up. I think I will and give the stinkers a surprise.

Ask them why they don't bring it up at church
Seriously, most NIMBY people fight the church with law and vice versa.

Re: Project #36468246-001 The Trinity Lutheran Church temporary homeless shelter
To whom it may concern:
I have been watching with some interest the discussion of the proposed temporary homeless shelter at the Trinity Lutheran Church. I confess, I felt it was all a tempest in a teapot and of little concern me as I live somewhat away from the centre of the controversy. This feeling changed when Ms. Corinne Lillo indicated to me (by putting a sheet in my mailbox) that she thought it should be of concern to me. I hope, in the light of the fact that Ms. Lillo, the apparent leader of the opposition to the shelter, has invited me to express my opinion, that my concerns will not be dismissed due to the distance I am from the church. My principal concern is that the meeting on February 19th will be loaded with people opposed while the vast majority of people in the neighborhood who have no issue with the shelter will just stay home.
I'm writing today to voice my opinion that the homeless shelter poses no particular risk to the citizens of the neighborhood. Just to put things into perspective: I find the annual Fringe festival (which I think is a wonderful thing for our neighborhood) is far more of a disruption than a temporary homeless shelter will be. I believe that the Fringe beer tents are far more dangerous to property in the neighborhood.
Personally, I have absolutely no objection to the proposed homeless shelter at Trinity Lutheran Church. In fact, I welcome it as a demonstration of our neighborhood's concern for the disadvantaged among us. While I agree with Ms. Lillo's suggestion that we "demand that our government find proper and permanent solutions that will benefit the homeless," I do not agree that shouting "get them out of our neighborhood" is the proper first step.
I am not a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, or, indeed, any of the neighborhood churches. I am simply long-term (two decades) resident of the Old Strathcona community who has become concerned about what appears to be a recent increase in bigotry in a small portion of that community.
Sincerely,

Now, really... a "more gravy please" gesture.... that would be ridiculous!
Here, however, is the "I ate the last of the gravy" gesture... http://images.tvnz.co.nz/news/australia/keith_murdoch_hand_gesture_plasma.jpg

Give 'em hell Anhaga (pardon the expression). Are homeless people anything like what is portrayed on TV? I've never seen/met any.
Another canadian was beaten here in NZ
On Sunday it was the Canadian softball team
Today the official record (held by a canadian) for one handed bra un-hooking was beaten about two hours ago.

Good letter, Anhaga....
Of course, Ms. Lillo (sp?) would probably surprised that someone would actually be in SUPPORT of the shelter. They usually are.
I had to laugh. In yesterday's Ottawa Citizen, there was a letter to the editor in support of someone who wrote a letter against same-sex marriages.
"Finally an opinion that speaks the truth for the majority who oppose same-sex marriage. Many of us were becoming skeptical about fair media coverage of this important issue." They went on to say that they are "tired of government and other groups bulldozing the rights of the majority in order to give rights to the few"....
1) If you are "finally hearing an opinion", it can't be something held by the majority, otherwise you would have been hearing it all along....
2) If anything, the media coverage has been very even-handed. Just because you don't agree with the "other side of the argument" and don't want to hear it, doesn't negate the fact that the opposition to the law has been heard in the media.
3) I fail to understand how allowing same-sex couples the right to marry infringes on your rights one iota. Perhaps if there was a proposition that ONLY same-sex couples were to be "allowed" to marry, you might be able to complain that your rights were being "bulldozed". There isn't, and they aren't.

Softball! yesterday you said it was skydiving!
Mudhooks:
here's the stuff the Kitty Clerk takes care of: http://www.edmonton.ca/bylaws/13145.doc
I quote: “Cat” means any domesticated cat . . . “City” means the City of Edmonton . . . “Dog” means any domesticated dog other than a Restricted Dog [I suppose a Restricted Dog isn't a Dog]. . . “Large Animal” means any animal other than a human being, Dog, Restricted Dog or Cat which in the adult form regularly weighs more than 10 kg.
I don't have any issues with the Kitty Clerk.
And, there is, of course, a proposition that only not-same sex couples be allowed to marry. Who has the bulldozer?

"Are homeless people anything like what is portrayed on TV? I've never seen/met any."
The homeless people in my neighborhood are what I affectionately call "the gleaners." I smile at them and say good morning when I pass them in the alley. They walk up and down the alleys a day or so before "garbage day" and glean whatever is salvagable that the rich people throw out. The only problem they've ever caused is that sometimes they have a bit of trouble repacking the garbage bags. No worse than the damage a skunk or a dog does. Funny, people have been known to take in stray dogs.
I had a vehicle break in the other night out in the alley. Whoever did it busted a window and rifled through the whole truck. No damage apart from the window. Nothing missing. It wasn't a homeless person: it was a cold night and the warm work gloves and all the coins were left behind. It wasn't a car thief: the truck was still there in the morning. Registration and insurance were there. My suspicion is that it was a couple of young guys (probably from the rich suburbs) looking for a thrill and maybe a few CDs. I've had a few break-ins over the course of my two decades in the neighborhood and we even caught one bunch. Rich kids from the suburbs. It's always been tapes, cds, electronics, or thrills they're after. I leave mounds of empty bottles in my truck. The other night they were also untouched.
The homeless people I meet in my neighborhood are polite, respectful, honest and perform a useful function in society. Is that what they look like on TV?

They really are mounds of coke bottles. I'm wiping the tears, too. I get my Big Rock in cans. Oooh. that sounds rude. Here: http://www.bigrockbeer.com/ My homemade stuff goes into bottles (and comes back out quite quickly) but I use them over again.
"mounds of bottles in my truck". Right under the gun rack.
Oh, and as for the rum. Rum holds bad memories for me involving violence, police, and elm trees embedded in the hood of a car.
(that'll keep him guessing)
