for those links, Anhaga. I wondered how things would change and although going back to the jeeps will be more dangerous at least it is showing the right face to the locals. I wonder if anyone has looked into upgrading them or else buying something else with the (lack of) budget the military (doesn't) get.

Warm and snowy here today.
A load of German-made gelandwagens is going to be arriving in Kabul for the Canadians in a month or two.

Do you think it's odd that Kazai has said something contrary to the US military?

""Canadians, they had no part in destroying my country. That's why I want them here. If they go, it will all start over again.""
This is why I think that US soldiers should leave Iraq. I posted something similar in the S and H thread from http://www.army.mil.nz
US soldiers seem to be perpetuating the violence as targets.
Oh and hi zoomer and mudhooks

Right...same show, Rick Miller & the performance were right at home, it's perfect Fringe fare...ideal change of pace after some of the more serious (heavier) dramatic works &/or ensemble casts.

Machomer was doing a tour here in NZ late last year. The radio station I listen to had an interview. I missed the actual show though.

I recently learned that I am descended from Duncan, the same Dunacn portrayed in Macbeth, which was interesting to me.

Ummm... I think you are thinking of Hamlet. Macbeth is "The Scottish Play"... Duncan was king of Scotland...
However, in doing my family tree, I found that this same line was related to most of the royal houses of northern Europe, including Denmark. So, although I would prefer you worded it differently, I AM descended from a great Dane...

Well, depending on which surname you are referring to.
My birth-father's family name, Houchins, is from England (they arrived in America at the time of the Jamestown settlements). One of the family lines in that is related to that is Johnston/Johnstone is the one which goes back to the early kings of Scotland.
My mother's family, MacIntosh, I haven't been able to find much information on. However, I know that on that side, I am descended from the Browns, one of which was the last Catholic bishop of Scotland (in those days priests could have been married). He was persecuted and his books and papers burned and had to take refuge in France. One of his sons, a Protestant, was persecuted under Mary Tudor, had his books and papers burned, and took refuge in Holland. He eventually went to America with the Puritans. Another descendant of those Browns was John Brown, the famous abolitionist martyr.
My step-father, a Parsi, was from India.
I have Irish, German, Scottish, Albanian, English, and a bunch of other acncestors.

Well, I am very proud of the fact that I have so many ancestors that have been dissenters.
One of the ancesters, I think also a Brown, was responsible for running the toll-gate at Berwick Bridge. Apparently, he objected to having to pay a toll, so ran his cart through the toll-gate. According to family lore, it was never reinstated.
So, I come by my sqeaky-wheelness quite naturally.
