FS - I was not offended by your points, I just felt you were, IMO, rightly indignant by the association of your country with the more despotic notions of Imperialism in existence.
The very fact that you have admitted holding an incomplete definition of the word and acknowledged others arguments just goes to show what a fine human being you are... and you're American!!
FF
PS, I've rarley seen such a discussion on here so civilized... congrats to all

Hear, hear. At the risk of starting a kerfuffle, I would like to thank those who expanded the original point I was making--and making it much better than I.
NM, we agree more often than we disagree, but you have to admit that *sometimes* America is in the wrong!

FG...Oh, trust me. I'm well aware the US is FAR from perfect. No nation is.
The goal all of us should have is to make the country we are in a better place......every little step we take only forces the world to do the same.
FiedlersFizzle...I thank you for the compliment, but keep in mind. Even the best of us "Americans" are arrogant! I'm afraid I'm no exception!

Hiya, Fairly Strange:
I've been away from the thread for a bit (taking care of my own responsibilities as a lackey of the Imperialists). I admit I was a little surprised and put out by your initial dismissal of my initial discussion of the meaning of the term "imperialism" but I've definitely not had any toes crushed. Words are slippery, but I'd rather have slippery words than slippery blood on the floor. I'm glad we all could exchange words.

Oh, for god's sake, this is turning into a love-in now. Quick, someone start an argument again!
How about:
George W Bush is the antichrist. Discuss.

FiedlersFizzle Posted Feb 21, 2003
Egon!! You're opinions are obviously the mindless drivel of a deranged psychopath who would not look out of place in the armpit of Christopher Biggins..... there you go, was that enough?....
(takes cover under a handy table and waits for the return broadside!!)

I think I might have just insulted someone over on the "thoughts on war with Iraq" thread. But I'm not going to do it here.

FF- your response is typical of the appalling drivel often sprouted by people in Bristol!

FiedlersFizzle Posted Feb 21, 2003
If you knew who Christopher Biggins was, you might feel inclined to leap to Egons defense as it is an insult of the most wretched kind!!!

FiedlersFizzle Posted Feb 21, 2003
Hah... at least my Gibbon cousins are further up the evolutionary scale than those little red squishy things you find on brick walls that are your relatives (nobody ever said I wasn't eloquent!)... and if you don't respond in 2 mins it will only confirm your incessent ramblings you pass off as intellect!!!

get ready for the big, well thought out insult:
ARSE!
(as much fun as this is, they're kicking me out of the library on the spurious grounds that it's closing time. Goodnight.)
