I thought I was right last week when in the middle of that tATu song they inturupted an told us about some crap.
But this week they confirmed it..
They definatly censored the 2 russian lesbians kissing, but this time switched to some bloke kissin some fat dog on the dance floor.
This aint fair I pay my license fee as well you know, they only got to #1 cos they kiss in the video so the BBC should show it!

* wonders what's so wrong about women kissing that the BBC can't show it at that time *
It's not like it's explicit or anything, the same thing happens between heterosexual couples all the time in other programmes in the same timeslot. Think EastEnders.
Oh, but of course, 'traditional family values'.

It's the song by the Russian group tATu. The video features the two ladies kissing. Several times.

Well, in the modern world shock value is considered far more important than talent. Look at the state of the charts.

Have TV media in general been suffering from selective anmesia from all this. We've had pre watershed lesbian kissing in soaps for years (Brookside and Emmerdale immediately spring to mind).

Not to mention two fellas on Byker Grove.
We were very disappointed to miss out on the lesbian kissing, actually...
Well, one of us was.

I think it's more to do with the "Lolita" style combined with the lesbianism thing...
They're not really lesbians

We know that, it's a shame the press don't...

To be fair, I think that Tatu are quite talented (or their songwriters are???) - at least on the basis of their first single in the UK. Certainly it's much better than the usual manufactured rubbish that we're usually subjected to.
And I think that Stealth Kam's right - if the video was cut it was because of the "schoolgirl" element.
I don't follow the charts any more, and I don't know enough about Tatu to make any informed comment, but it strikes me that it might not be a bad thing that there is some articulation of what it's like to be a gay teenager. It's just a shame that anything to do with lesbianism in popular culture tends to be aimed at men. How bizzare is that??

It is bizarre. Why is that?
It was just pathetic of the BBC to cut it.

I've only heard the Dance version of the track... it has a good loop and the hook is magnificent from the POV that a record is ment to sell... and if you've ever been down the lyrics are ones that are easy to identify with...
They are certainly worthy of more respect than any boyband or standard manufactured pop sh!te...
t.A.T.u. are a work of art, in that they are concept, that has been put before the public and has created controvery and made people think about themsleves and what society values...

They've been extremely successful in Russia and Eastern Europe with this song - although this is the first time it's been released in English. The original one came out in 1999, but it was in Russian of course and had a different title, so might be considered to be a completely different song which just happens to have the same basic tune (well, maybe, I've not heard the other version). I do rather like it actually, and the video's not bad either.
It's infinitely better than anything Popstars produced.

*gives it her thumbs up too*
Although they *do* claim to be bisexual...as opposed to being gay...

I doubt people who worry about lesbian kissing would see that being bisexual is any better...

Saturnine Posted Feb 15, 2003
Oh no. I didn't mean that. They've had lesbian/gay kissing on Eastenders. Not sure why they censored it off...I suspect Stealth was right about it being because they are teens. Although it seems perfectly to parade around kids in adult clothing on that show, so it seems. And CBBC leaves a lot to be desired for. I was referring to the comments up above about the tabloids and then not really being gay.

'Tho they are of-age teens, aren't they?
(didn't stop Richard&Judy going on about 'underage lesbian snogs' despite there being no such thing. )

Stealth "Jack" Azathoth Posted Feb 16, 2003
Yep... they are of-age even in the UK where of-age is in legal terms higher than most of Europe and the World...
I'm not sure if they were of-age when the concept first came about and they found fame in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Bloc...
