The Second Coming

Well, I've been told the ending, and I saw the first hour. I'm just defending my disinterest in it. That's all. I'm not saying there was poor acting, or poor directing, or poor camera work. Just think the concept is a little...cliched for my liking. I'm entitled not to like it!! I'm not saying you can't like it!! It's just my perspective on it.

Fair enough. But you can't have a meaningful discussion about something you didn't experience.

Hmm, that didn't read quite right - you can of course discuss something you haven't experienced. But it's not quite the same if other people have & you haven't. smiley - erm

I have just cught up, and have now seent he programme minus the fist few minutes.

I felt the first episode was the stongest, with respect to religion/s atitudes to a human form of God.

The idea that manny would want the person of God on earth, would want him dead, very natural.

So I have less of a right to an opinion because I wasn't interested; despite watching the first hour and knowing the concept of the programme, not to mention the concpet of Christ's life, as well as I possibly could?

I am entitled to not like it, and therefore chance the channel after watching a good chunk of the programme, and still comment.

Am I not?

It was about Stephen, not Christ.

Of course you are entiltled not to like it, but it is difficult to take some of your comments about it seriously when you didn't actually see it!

But I *did* see it. Just not all of it.

And it played on the concept of Christ and his Second coming...hence the title. May not have been the crucified Christ, but it's Christ all the same.

This thread was about what people thought of the programme. I'm offering my opinion. I didn't find it interesting, so I didn't bother with it after the first hour. Why are you all ganging up on me?? smiley - erm Seems a bit bizarre...smiley - erm

I can assure you it's not easy to shock me.

I watched the second part because I wanted to know how it was going to end.

I didn't expect it, and it made me think.

I appreciate any form of entertainment that has a new concept and can maintain my interest.

I'm sorry you weren't entertained, but hey, that's what the remote control is for.

Would you of you like to discuss the American pop-idol show?
Although I didn't watch it, so it may be a bit one-sided.

The science fiction classic "Stranger in a Strange Land" by Robert A Heinlein was probably the first work of fiction to deal with the likely reactions and resulting impact of a 'second coming'.

The central character was not Christ (or even human) but possessed the qualities and behavior we have been lead to believe might be expected from a returning 'Jesus' to this mad, mad modern world.

Published in 1961, its philosophy of 'love and peace' was years ahead of, and contributed to, the 'flower power' movement of the mid-late sixties.

As for any real second coming, ask yourself, would YOU come back?

Not ganging up, only disagreeing with your assertion that it was just sexed up christianity. 'All religion is pointless and don't you think it is time you took responsibility for your own actions' doesn't strike me as a particularly christian message, I could be wrong though, I haven't been reading up on it lately smiley - tongueout
