pheloxi,
can you be a bit more specific so other people can save themselve before it is too late?

How was the attachment called, what was the subject of the mail, what was the text?

Please stop panicking!

I read somewhere that the BBC had contracted a virus...that could be why they are spamming you? Although there is no reference t it on BBCi anywhere? You could try leaving a message for Mina on her space?

*runs off to check yahoo account*

You got yourself a new version of an old one:
http://techupdate.zdnet.com/techupdate/stories/main/0,14179,2868359,00.html from june 2002.

With an updated good anti-virus program you should be safe, especially if you NEVER NEVER NEVER trust ANY attachment you did not ask for yourself.

A number of virusses are not only using the adressbook to randomly send copies of themselves to, but use those adresses also in the FROM field, so you cannot know where they came fromsmiley - sadfacesmiley - grr

If you got infected, have a look at
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.yaha.removal.tool.html

or an equivalent from another trusted anti-virus firm.

of course these malicious attachments are why you don't allow automatic opening of attachments or extension hidding.

still, on a related point, someone setting things up exactly wrong on a linux based windows emulater has managed to catch a windows virus (but it only worked for spreading itself, as it didn't have permission to modify executables).

it goes to show that you just have to be carefull how you set things up.

Do they all appear to be from the same person?

If so, they probably *are* from the same person, and you might want to try and tell them about it...

If they all seem to be from different people, they're probably *still* from the same person, but the virus is forging return addresses. It may still be possible to work out who it's from by looking at the message headers -- see if there's an option to do this.

Whichever is the case, it's almost certain that they're being sent automatically by the virus itself -- the only person to blame is the virus writer...

the name of email address is artist who I am not sure is not alive anymore, behind @ sign is .com address of e-mail provider you have pay for. I thunk some one used some kind of "stealth" to hide real e-mail address!

Hmm, see if you can find the mail headers and post 'em here, it should be possible to tell whether the address is real...

I can do that, but what about house rules ?

Post 18

Hmm, I suppose you'd have to star out part of any bits that look like email addresses... the rest should be okay, though.
