Narapoia: We tried it with the original polos, but the sugar free and spearmint ones may work as well as far as I know.

I never knew how much I missed not being able to get marmite out here (Switzerland) until I read this thread...smiley - wah

I gave up beating after I finished eating my toast and drinking my tea, so maybe 8 - 10 minutes?
It was a sort of dark mustard colour.
What we really need is a Marmite Percussion Machine to take the slog out of the experiment and avoid a whole load of researchers with RSI suing the BBC!!!

smiley - biggrin Thank you for those links, Cloviscat! I'm now craving all sorts of things I can't get out here from looking at them! Hmm, cheesy wotsits...

Has anyone actually achieved truly white marmite yet?

My goodness, Hebe, a packet of cheesy wotsits wouldn't cost much to post - do you not have someone in the UK to send you a food parcel? If it would make that much difference to your life, supply me with a postal address offline and I'll send you some as an act of charity! smiley - smiley

We had A494525 on that subject. There's something strangely appealing about that number with its two pallindromes.

I can get Cheesy Wotsits, Tayto cheese'n'onion crisps, Marmite, Heinz tomato ketchup, twiglets and the like from a place called "The English Shop" here in Luxembourg. Are there no similar establishments near you?

There may be a shop in Zürich which sells stuuf like that, but I haven't found one. Maybe next time I'm there I'll have a look. I went home to England for Christmas, so am currently fairly well stocked. I'm kept fairly well supplied generally by friends who come and visit me, who get asked to bring bacon, mature cheddar and malt loaf - funny the things you miss isn't it?!

It's probably possible to get something very similar to cheesy wotsits here, it was just something that appealed as I looked through lists of untold goodies. Probably because I can't remember the last time I had them even when I was in the UK!

Is 'The English Shop' a chain of stores or a one off?

There's an English shop in Brussels but I don't think it's a chain.

There used to be a chain - good old M+S - but then their Belgain CEO decided to pull out of continental Europe...smiley - wah

Re: who found out that marmite changes colour first?

My money is on the makers of marmite, wouldn't be surprised if they spent wads of cash on a shiney new bottling plant only to find they were getting beige marmite out of the end.

And so far as marmite is concernedsmiley - yuksmiley - yuksmiley - yuk

Granny, your comment about vegimite reminded me of a Sliders episode, where the fellas were the only men and the Australian woman guard {with the worst Aussie accent I've ever heard...} told Professor Arturo to eat up his vegimite to build up his sperm count. Up till today I never knew what vegimite was!
Good old hootoo.smiley - ok
