What is it about ?
For me it's bubble wrap.
Give any normally sane (if that can be defined) human being a bit of bubble wrap and they go totally bonkers! Anyone old enough to squish the bubbles, will. And they will keep on going until there are no bubbles left!
Some are logical and begin in one corner, slowly working their way around popping bubbles. Totally oblivious to the world around them. Others randomly pop here and there and then begin hunting for the bubbles they may have missed.
Human beings are a strange race. No wonder 
do experiments on us.

If you roll the bubble-wrap into a tube, then twist the roll, you can pop a load of bubbles at once!

My parents actually got me some bubble wrap for Christmas once.

As a fossil collector I usually have a fair amount of bubble wrap around the houe, both the small sort and the big sort. I have forgone my enjoyment of popping bubbles and now enjoy it vicariously. My two and a half year old daughter has a solid tyred tricycle, so we lie the bubble-wrap on the kitchen lino for her to ride over.
It's almost as good, if not better, especially when she hits a strip at the right speed - RRRRRRRRRRRRRRrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiipppppppppppppp!

Oh god yeah... it's THE best toy for kids!!!
My inlaws had a new fridge delivered not long ago and it was encased in the big bubble bubble wrap.... we laid it out on the floor and showed them how to jump on the bubbles to make the noise .... kept them amused for the best part of 2 hours!!!!! I love toys like that!!!!!
And if I'd have thought about getting the trikes out on it we could have had even more fun!!!!
