Hey Mel, i'm thankful you don't know anything about drugs
i think the patterns and users of cannabis and say, heroin are different. i certainly don't know of anyone who smokes blow to forget about their troubles. from personal experience i've never seen anyone smoke themselves in capable (well not for long anyway) it makes you sink into the couch, but i don't think anyone smokes to blott anything out. its a different kind of feeling.
my friends and i use dope socially in the same way other people drink.
driving with drunk or on drugs is abhorrent. i think the alcohol limit should be zero. but then i'm a big hypocrite - i've refused to get into a car with a drunk driver, but yet i wouldn't think twice about getting into a car with someone stoned...

And I know one ex-heavy user that feels he has permanently damaged his ability to remember things (even 8 years on), and a recovering alcoholic that has put her life back together entirely.

If you are going to educate anyone then you need to give them
The truth, not scary stories and half truths.
The whole truth, one falsehood will discredit the whole attempt,
Nothing but etc, heroin and crack cocaine have as much to do with cannabis as a cup of coffee! Sure people need to know the truth about these drugs too but you wouldn't try to teach them by talking about aspirin would you?
If this thread achieves anything it is simply to illustrate how poorly people have been educated on the subject thus far.

Hey, the high from exercise can be addictive as well, you know . Makes you aggressive, I understand...

Try going on a kiddies swing, and swinging really hard I'd forgotten how fun it is!

An end to the silliness (I have no natural endorphins, I am convinced of this because I don't seem able to get addicted to exercise, I just have to force myself to do it every day).
Education needs to be better and honest, and there needs to be greater provision of things for teenagers to do so they don't automatically reach for the beer/spliff for entertainment. My home town quietly and merrily had one of the worst cannabis abuse records in the country (was featured on some aussie documentary) because it was cheap, readily available, and one of very few sources of entertainment. The same factors lead to an increase of alcohol consumption and teenage guitar bands .

W*****E
Why are you glad that I don't know anything about drugs? Surely the argument we're making here is that people like myself should be educated.

Oooooh...a fellow swinger...I thought I was the only one. My other half refuses to let me put one in the garden and the local kids at the park are now giving me funny looks so I've had to stop.

Ross Posted Aug 14, 2002
Unfortunately mine are now too old - so I dont get to go on a swing anymore either

E G Mel Posted Aug 14, 2002
Go to the local park when all the kiddies have gone to bed, swinging in the dark is even better!

Funny - many moons ago when I was in my late teens thats often what my friends and I used to do - usually with a few spliffs to make it more fun.

Blues shark has convinced me I 'm giving it all up! I keep on seeing his posts twice!
but seriously
All things in moderation, as pointed out drugs, food, exersise, almost anything is OK in moderation, too much of ANYTHING is bad.
Have to say I am worried about drugs education, the amount of misinformation and mad preconceptions we have all had is worring. My own lack of knowledge worries me a bit and I'm supposed to be an expert on how they work. Perhaps the reclassification oh cannabis will alow proper research into cannabis and finally proove or disproove some of the myths.

E G Mel Posted Aug 14, 2002
It's not so much proving or disproving the myths, it's making sure that the general public get to hear the results, and I'm not just talking about the telegraph readers here!

Hope so, after all these years I'm still waiting to turn into a drug crazed psychopath
or something

So we are still doing a good job of keeping him unaware of his present condition!
Good for you Snockerty Friddle, glad to hear you're still sane and all that
